Hey Guys

Just trying to get a feel on how much (per hour) you are having to pay for systems support & network engineers?

I know its a broad question - but we are trying to figure a reasonable ongoing IT budget...

Thankx

Jim

Depends entirely on:
Market (SMB, Education, Corporate)
Terms of Agreement (Time and Materials, x Hours per week)
Skill Level Required (Level 1,2,3 - Project, etc)
Particular Skills required

I suggest you frame your request in those terms and actually go and get quotes from people.

e.g. Rates for System Engineers I have seen range from $35-$40 an hour to well over $200 an hour for specialists.

However if you commit to 4 Hours a week for 12 months that rate will come down a lot.

We charge out at $89 per hour or if the job is less than half an hour, $55
Travel is $25 for up to 35kms from our office.

Telephone support via teamviewer is $25 per 15 min block.

Make sure you get someone who is happy to use something like teamviewer and install it on your computers so that help is almost instantly available via the telephone. It saves me huge amounts of travel time. I really dont wanna drive 20kms to fix something in 2 seconds and end up charging $55 + a travel charge. I feel happier knowing that i have only charged $25 and you got the problem sorted almost instantly.

In your budget
 - Each pc gets replaced every 3 years at a cost of $1,700 to $2,000 once you factor in the pc plus the labour involved in setting it up
 - Account for your software support and upgrades such as your accounting system and day-to-day apps
 - Approx 2 hours per month for a small doctors office / dentist, maybe more for larger companies.
