From a public health POV we don't want you to have endless access to as much content as you choose. You can get very sick. Just look at the number of people that porn is making sick.
Some of this stuff is actually driven by public policy and it's done for reasons that most people neither know, understand or care about.
Good point, I am probably biased towards it as i believe in 'self responsibility' a concept not many people seem to understand these days.

Do you need a physical music collection? Or would you be happy if it was all in the cloud?
Many artist are uploading their music to youtube now and getting paid through advertising by people watching their videos. This is infact how vevo works it is a joint venture between sony, umg, etc.
I use to hate vevo because most of the time you could not save the mp3 from their videos although vevo does not cause that it is due to licencing etc. I also understand that if the song is saved to your computer they do not get the view count each time you play it.
There has to be some give from the previous 'pirates' getting everything for free and whatever the solution is must support the artist. Therefore is the future of music in an online advertising platform such as youtube or similar?
I think the occasional add is a small price to pay and i know when I am watching it that it supports the artist. It also gives small time artist more of a chance (also allows them to avoid all their profits being taken by wmg etc). Although for this to work 're-uploaders' who re-upload the same song under their own name must be removed as they are taking away some of the view count and therefore some of the profit. Also people must make sure they click on videos by the official channels.
As I know some people will be concerned about audio quality, youtube supports 192kbps. Might not satisfy an audiophile but it is good enough and I am sure it will increase in the future. Although if this was the future I would like to see a more music and playlist orientated platform than you tube.
