Personally I hope it does as I've always liked Nokia's phones and was disappointed they chose to go with Microsoft when they did.

Very much doubt it, the MSFT purchase has been approved by regulatory bodies, can't see them using a competitors offering. Anyway WindowsPhone 8 is very good.

I hope Nokia dont go Android.  There are android phones everywhere as every man and his dog makes android phones now.  There is such a thing as too much of a good thing.   It is refreshing that Nokia has Windows Phone 8 and not android offerings.

HTPC Intel Pentium G3258 cpu, Gigabyte H97n-wifi motherboard, , 8GB DDR3 ram, onboard  graphics. Hauppuage HVR 5500 tuner,  Silverstone LC16M case, Windows 10 pro 64 bit using Nextpvr and Kodi

The thing is that Nokia make a good phone so why not have other offerings, its about sales not being Tribal.

I thought it looked good until I saw they were using a forked version of Android

Nokia make excellent phones with an equally excellent OS, their low end phones offer so much more at low cost compared to the competition thanks to WinPhone 8's management of RAM. The switch to WinPhone has been very successful for Nokia
why change if its working so well, that would just confuse the market for them and split their resources.

Well simply because android is ruling the market at the moment so why cut off your nose to spite your face.

If the switch was that successful why did they get bought out by Microsoft. How much of the market have Nokia lost since the arrival of smartphones?

the numbers speak volumes. Samsung produce windows OS phones and they also have their own OS, Tizen, I'm not saying they have it right but they certainly have their options covered.

As I said its not about supporting the OS and phone of your choice its the reality of limiting your market to the point your sales are going backwards. Having said that it won't always be dominated by Android but we are talking about the here and now

I'm quite interested in seeing what its UI ends up looking like. Nokia has a real flair for software design in places, and hasn't gotten to express that terribly much in Windows Phone. The N9 was gorgeous.

A check of the Nokia fiscals will show a good turn around in fortunes in the last 24 months.

Remember Apple has made good profits on smaller market shares.

"As was reaffirmed in a report on Tuesday night, Nokia has been prepping a low-endAndroid phone that is close to being ready for commercial release. The handset, code-named Normandy, is an entry-level device resembling some of the recent Asha budget phones that were successful enough to halt Nokia’s feature phone unit volume and average sales price erosion in the autumn quarter.

What The Verge did not report is that after Nokia’s handset unit sale to Microsoft was announced, there was buzz in Helsinki that Nokia had used a very specific form of leverage to force Microsoft to buy the entire handset unit, including the massive low-end feature phone operation that is not a natural fit with Microsoft’s smartphone ambitions. That leverage was proof that Nokia had an Android development program that was able to produce a competitive low-end device able to go toe to toe with Micromax, Karbonn and other dirt cheap Android brands.

Normandy may be the device that Nokia used to bludgeon Microsoft into buying both smartphone and feature phone operations."

They may have been playing with an Android device but the new owners will never put it in production and do not need to.

Let me see. They get a photo of a Lumia device, photoshop the Windows back/home/search buttons out of it and posts as "leaked Nokia Android device"?

Seems legit.

You have, as yet, to answer my questions.

Why, if they are so successful with Windows phones , did they sell to Microsoft.

How much of the phone market has Nokia lost since smartphones were introduced.

your replies seem to avoid answering my posts leading me to believe your arguments are unsupported. I may be wrong of course

I am not a board member of Nokia so no inside info as with any New Zealander, however Nokia arrested their slide into bankruptcy with the move to Windows Phone. MSFT has shown over the last few years its desire to diversify, they have
increasingly been moving into hardware especially mobile hardware, then the move to phones is logical ,also it is logical for them to buy an existing operation as opposed to reinventing the wheel. It is further logical that they purchase the biggest vendor
of Windows phone thus securing their market vehicle from being picked up by a competitor. Why would Nokia sell, ROI would be my first clue.

I think you'll find the main reason they were doing ok with MS was the $20 per unit sold support they were getting paid, minus the $10 for use of software and thats money in the bank.

A quick search on Google shows you are mostly incorrect and it was sold due to huge losses and a bleak future in mobile handests. Investors seem to think it was due to mis management by the CEO who stood down but is going to MS with the mobile phone side of it.

It makes for interesting reading to say the least.
