Insanekiwi: I am not sure if this was stated before.
If you go to Samsung NZ - mobile phones are covered for 2 years under manufacturer's warranty. This applies to all NZ New phones I believe.

What about the ones that Dick Smiths sell in their stores in NZ.They aren't tied to any mobile operator.

Samsung will support / provide warranty for all phones they supplied to NZ Retailers. I think they said to me

"Please go into Phone > Dial pad (Keypad) and then dial * # 1 2 3 4 # " - which is not possible on on the dead phones.. Samsung NZ then need the CSC Code to support you further.

"If you are unable to provide us with the CSC code we will need to know the next best thing which is who is the supplier of the phone. We recommend that you contact the retailer to ask if the phone has been supplied by Brightpoint (Vodafone Variant) Brightstar (Telecom Variant) or Oceanic Communications (2Degrees variant) once we know this information we will be able to assist you further. "
I dont know Dick Smiths source - but I would have assumed they would use a Samsung NZ distributor.

Emiloser: Here goes my first post...

I guess that makes me the 3rd known customer from Fairbuy that had their S3 die suddenly.  Mine died today, 16GB white version. I'm about to write to Fairbuy.

Here the Companies Office details of Fairbuy FYI.
