old3eyes: I heard on a podcast this morning that it is Samsung that has initiated this regional locking to prevent fones from cheap regions being parallel imported to expensive regions to protect their money flow in the expensive regions. If a fone bought in UK from Clove is activated with a EU SIM before being shipped to NZ it will work OK here but if activated here with a NZ SIM your screwed. maybe the like s of Clove will include a cheap prepay EU SIM in each order they sent to other regions??
A bit like Blu-ray regional coding..

Latest on the internet suggests even after activating with a UK SIM in the EU, traveling to another country outside the EU then using another sim, the region lock is still there.
