Given the debacle every time a new Apple product is released and the massive undersupply thereof, I don't think they're too worried about not having enough to meet demand prior to "release". To be fair, I imagine that is out of VF's control given the nature of the fruit empire.

Official launch date was this Wednesday (the 22nd). I would've hoped that they would at least have sent a memo to the stores letting them know that the product is coming, even if it's going to be delayed by a couple of weeks, otherwise the response I got of "*chuckle* maybe in a couple of months" may put them off waiting.

Apparently there was an official "Launch event" in Auckland on the 22nd and the device was supposedly on sale as of yesterday. It does say "selected stores" - maybe its a couple of stores in Auckland only at this stage?

Update on the Note availability - _Apparently_ a VF store in Queen Street, Auckland has one. Given that there's _still_ no mention on the website and whoever looks after their Facebook page and their Wellington store staff are still unaware of a release date, it's pretty poor. Do VF not like money, or do they just not think anyone is interested because it doesn't have a fruit logo on it?

You can use stuff like Locale and Tasker to trigger car/dock mode dude!

I had issues getting Tasker to work reliably for this, the best I could come up with was to get it to enable bluetooth when USB was connected and try to connect to my bluetooth stereo, if a connection succeeds then enable car mode. It was too hit & miss though.

If you have any better methods - then I'm all ears though! :)

Hi i hope someone can help. I am about to buy a note. I was going to buy a vodafone one from noel leeming. they offered $1050 as the best price. There is also this future tech / mobile station in auckland who are selling it for $879. Just need to know if somebody had any dealings with them in the past and also which way to go to but this awesome mobile.

If you want the best price then a parallel importer is the best choice. You shouldn't have anything to worry about if you are ordering directly from a store.

My Note has arrived!

First thought on opening the box? "Holy S##t". That's a big "phone"!

Looks very pretty though, figured just for a change I'll actually charge it properly before I use it. Gives me time to download the ICS firmware - let's see if I can boot it with a "new" firmware without ever using the original one... :)

Unfortunately I need to download a ~500GB firmware in order to root the phone to flash CWM as it's got a non-rootable LA4 firmware on it OOTB, and then download the ~500GB ICS update, don't think management would be too impressed with me download 1GB over the office network, better wait until I get home I think :)

Hmm, beta I'm happy with, "very" beta, possibly less so. I just flashed a LB1 firmware update to it which was only about 15MB - as per usual with these things, who knows what's actually changed though.

I think I also need to reflash the initial power-on screen, I quite liked my custom one for my SGS2 that had a nice picture of a starfield in the background. Their boring black-text on a white background seems too bland for my liking :)

Turns out that I _can_ use it single-handed, with only a small juggle to reach the top-right corner.

Also, the handwriting recognition works amazingly well given that my cursive script doesn't exactly follow the rules. It's actually practical to use, pity I can't combine it with SwiftKey somehow.

Not at all, the Chinese version of ICS re-packed for the N7000 international version is extremely stable and daily-driver worthy.

Guide for Root with video and also installation guide for the Chinese ICS ROM at my blog if you need 'em Steve (AndroidNZ.net).

In relation to the size - worth pointing out that ADW Launcher/NOVA Launcher have settings where you can pull down the notification tray anywhere on a homescreen - quite useful on the Note!

Unfortunately the Zergrush method doesn't work on versions KL7 or newer (or so it would seem). Mine shipped with LA4, so it looks looks like the downgrade method may we what I'll need.

Yep, flash a CFRoot supported older firmware and proceed as normal.

...is the size becoming normal already? :)

I remember picking up my SGSII about 2 hours after getting the Note and being like 'Oh my god, that phone is tiny! (compared to my now normal sized Note)".

Heh, yeah, I'm getting used to it pretty quickly.

The screen is just about big enough that I won't need my Touchpad for video-watching duties. I like that doubletapping on the lockscreen with the stylus brings the notepad up straight away, very useful for office-wandering duties!
