GPS crap-ness is really the only thing annoying me now I've applied the Voodoo lagfix.

Yeah a few of us tried it back in late July when it was first found out, think on about page 20-30, but unsure of which. I've redone it to mine, in Froyo 2.2 it already has supl.google.com in the link instead now, but they have removed Skyhook. Seems to get a semi accurate lock pretty fast now!

I have moved across the ditch. Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

I'm on JPK, no problems with the browser here, either speed-wise or stability-wise (it is slightly slower than Eclair sometimes, as in flash heavy sites).

Isn't JPK one of the older leaked versions of froyo?

Same here. (Update: Note quite the same: I'm on JP6. I was refering to the stability and speed) Stable and generally fast if the connection is fast.

IMHO, the default browser is overall the best for both functionality and speed.

I set plugins to "on demand", so sites with a lot of Flash load quickly and I only touch the 'green arrow' of the particular flash I item I want. This makes TVNZ and TV3 OnDemand much more usable.

Yeah..sorry....I wasn't clear. I'm on JP6. Stock, no lag fixes.

I've stayed stock so far because I wasn't that happy with the lag fix on eclair anyway. My co-worker has a stock Eclair-running, no lag-fix phone and his was running better than mine was on Eclair. That was what made me start thinking Launcher choice and app choice may also be factors. So I've been invesitigating that.....not systematically...but implicitly through daily use.

Right... all WCDMA handsets are quand band GSM (2G) .. but not all are quad band 3G which includes both 850 and 900 3G bands.. unless its the likes of the iPhone 4G which has both 850 and 900 3G bands..

so did Telecom say it would be "Quad Band GSM" or "Quad Band 3G"?

Quad band 3G was what they were emphasising, will have to wait to Wednesday to find out.

Can pretty much guarantee it wont be Quad Band 3G. The Galaxy has several variants internationally and none are Quad Band 3G.

A fluff post really. I'm liking the SGS a lot - better than the wife's iP3GS and waaayyyy better than my E63 and E71.

Faults? The 'Back' button and 'Menu' buttons are too sensitive for my stumbling digits. Audio is merely OK. It doesn't appear to allow tethering via Bluetooth, which is a real PITA. Hope FroYo fixes that. Other than those minor glitches, that's it. Not seeing any lag but given where I came from, anything would seem snappy I guess.

Bouquets? Most everything about this phone. I bought mine from a "major retailer" on a deal, so I'm not feeling much pain though the phone is freakin' expensive. But I need a hi res screen for development reasons so can't bitch. And while it's undeniably a tool, it's also fun to have around.

If anybody can direct me to a thread with must-have android apps, I'd be grateful. Surfing through the Android Market is not a happy experience. Think I'll write an app that makes the experience a lot better.

Other than that, I'll post here when my apps are out. They'll be free for a while so it'd be interesting to get the Kiwi viewpoint on 'em. And if anybody wants to get involved in the beta process, PM me and I'll put you on my list. Don't expect any quick response though as I'm backed up like a city council refuse truck right now.

Congrats to all the SGS owners. A fine piece of kit and hoping to make it even better.

Appbrain website is better than browsing the market. Install a barcode scanner on your phone, so you just scan the barcode on appbrain to install the app, otherwise you can synch ur phone to your appbrain account and install the apps automatically. I'm seriously getting frustrated with the browser slowness when scrolling on JP6. I think I will try the Doc_Kalpik Rom tomorrow and if that doesn't improve things I'll have to flash back to an Eclair build such as JM9. I don't know how they managed to make the performance so pathetic compared to Eclair.

Development ain't easy so I guess the old "fix someting/break something" still holds true.

Microsoft is undoubtedly the world champ in actually getting it right, despite the hammering they get from the interwebs. When you factor the number of issues their code creates vs the astonishingly lage installed base they have to support, my hat is off to them...

I have a tiny installed base to support, yet my life consists of 90+% trying to replicate user bugs and fixing them, and half of the remaining time creating new stuff. The remainder is attempting to optmise code for performance.

Grrr...

Oh well. My choice and the satisfaction most often outweighs the issues. :D
