lokhor: I'm seriously getting frustrated with the browser slowness when scrolling on JP6. I think I will try the Doc_Kalpik Rom tomorrow and if that doesn't improve things I'll have to flash back to an Eclair build such as JM9. I don't know how they managed to make the performance so pathetic compared to Eclair.

Development ain't easy so I guess the old "fix someting/break something" still holds true.

Microsoft is undoubtedly the world champ in actually getting it right, despite the hammering they get from the interwebs. When you factor the number of issues their code creates vs the astonishingly lage installed base they have to support, my hat is off to them...

I have a tiny installed base to support, yet my life consists of 90+% trying to replicate user bugs and fixing them, and half of the remaining time creating new stuff. The remainder is attempting to optmise code for performance.

Grrr...

Oh well. My choice and the satisfaction most often outweighs the issues. :D

JP6 was supposed to be the official Froyo release in Scandinavian countries. I'm very disappointed with Samsung. Compared to HTC they are terrible in both the speed and the quality of the software they produce.

Time to send a message to their bitch line if you're serious about getting some remedial action then. It does work. Give it a go and follow it up if needs be.

Me, I will hack if I can be bothered, or I will be patient and wait for the official update on the assumption that late is better than flawed.

Unfortunately, flawed is the norm these days. But I'm as guilty as any so I'll cut Samsung some slack. Just as a matter of interest, Gingerbread is a lot more interesting. Patience can be a virtue. :D

Wow, rumors are that Samsung will be providing the Nexus 2 for Google and it'll be almost identical to the SGS. If this is true, we'll finally get a good optimised build of froyo.

The Nexus 2 will be Android 2.3, and stock, so it doesn't help particularly with porting either 2.3, or 2.2 to our TouchWiz'd Galaxy S... Samsung having a good level of experience with Gingerbread does mean the odds of seeing it on the Galaxy S increase though...

GPS crap-ness is really the only thing annoying me now I've applied the Voodoo lagfix.

Yeah a few of us tried it back in late July when it was first found out, think on about page 20-30, but unsure of which. I've redone it to mine, in Froyo 2.2 it already has supl.google.com in the link instead now, but they have removed Skyhook. Seems to get a semi accurate lock pretty fast now!

I'm on Froyo JP6 (stock) and the GPS has lost it's northward bias...and the locator blue arrow now seems to freely orbit my actual location within about 10 metres. That's better than it as...and it gets the lock faster.

So I'll declare it to be better....though still not really holding a candle to my HTC Magic or Nexus One in relative terms, but in absolute terms it would be Good Enough(tm).

I suspect the hacker community will be pumping out ported ADP4 ROMs for use on the SGS.

Can anyone recommend/suggest an app that lets me use my SGS as a network client to stream media (pictures, movies, music) over Wi-Fi from my home server?

This seems so straight-forward, but I can't find anything that's not an internet radio-style app?

Currently Samsung have been absolutely poor at optimising the software for their hardware. The SGS should be blitzing the competition but the stock Samsung builds of android perform quite poorly.

If the rumors are true (they may just be rumors) and the Nexus 2 is based on the same SGS platform, then it'll mean Google's engineers and the android developer community will be working to optimise the software for the Nexus 2. It seems like a partnership which will enhance Samsung's products as they don't seem to have the expertise to really get the most out of the software. Samsung may be doing this for that exact reason - to save them the hassle of doing it themselves.

Why does this help the SGS? If the products are near identical (which is the current claim), it shouldn't take long for ports to come over to SGS.

Just doing my research now to see whether its worth the leap from JPK (it ain't broke, not sure if I want to fix it).

I've read the reports on xda and seems like it's pretty good for the majority of the users, even without any lag fixes.
