kiwijunglist:
3. have you seen a guide on using adb to backup efs? I don't really see the point in buying root explorer just to backup efs.
kiwijunglist: Thanks, I didn't know that the logo was different when going into recovery mode when pluged into power source.
1. Why do you date the efs folder?
2. So is clock work recovery just for restoring an nandroid backup, or does clock work recovery actually back things up as well.

Looks like I'll be flashing back to Eclair for the official release of Froyo...
Can't get the missing apps to install successfully - Swype, Google Maps, GPS - a whole bunch of stuff. I guess I'll be digging around the web hunting out clues or fixes. I'd just download them all as apps and reinstall them if I could find them. Not looking promising though.
Oh well, we tinker with stuff and stuff happens.

Neets:
Have you done a synch with Appbrain? That should show up any previously installed apps that can't be found on your phone. Odd though that your Titanium restore hasn't restored the market apps. I did read some people having problems with swype (assuming you went with a Doc_Kalpik ROM) and I'm sure if it's not included in one of the download files on the first page, someone will provide it for you if you post a question. Though I've seen the download posted a couple of times already within the forum.
I'd say Doc_Kalpik will be putting out a suped up ROM of the official Froyo version when it's released. There was already some chatter on the forum that it looked like they might have seen it.
EDIT: Just checked the first page (did a search of the page for swype) and there's two versions of swype for download. You put them on your internal SD and then go to recovery, use CWM to install a zip (you don't have to rename the zip to update).
Neets:kiwijunglist: What apps / methods should i use to backup the phone prior to flashing, as I understand there is;
1. Titanium Backup - Only backs up apps / app data / system settings
2. Nandroid - Backups up entire phone including the firmware, kinda like a ghost image for your PC. Does this also backup EFS?
3. Clockwork Recovery?
4. Manual backup of efs data
1. Yes But the backup is useless if you're going from 2.1 to 2.2 as Eclair and Froyo treat the apps different
2. Recommended by Doc as it does INclude the /efs
3. I do this, I like to have it and name it a I choose to easily restore the phone to the same state it was when I took the backup - not essential
4. I do this too, and I copy the folder and add the date to the folder. But if you've done step 2, then this isn't necessary as you can get the /efs from the nandroid backup
Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Despite the issues with Kies (although some recent posts suggest that some of these issues may now have been addressed) I am waiting to update to 2.2 using Kies.
However, does the second comment no.1. above mean that, if I back-up my apps, install Froyo, restore my apps to the phone from the back-up, they will not work with Froyo???
