dunash: Like alot of people here I am interested in the nexus but not sure if I should rush out and order. Any word on when the $25 voucher offer will expire?

I am also considering the iPad2 as an alternative - 16 gb wifi is only $50-100 more on trade me. Any thoughts on pros/cons of nexus 7 versus a refurbished iPad2?

Are people sure nz users will be able to access the movies/tv/magazines etc. in the play store? Could be frustrating if we are locked out.

Being locked out would be the same as Apple TV at this stage in NZ anyway. It is locked down in terms of available content unless you use a US credit card. Not sure if there would be a similar way around with Google Play though, anyone have insight?

I bought my HTC Desire HD online from the UK. My phone received updates almost as soon as they were released whereas the same HTC Desire HD in other countries took weeks/months to get updates.

I saw this again with my Samsung Galaxy S2. I bought it in Australia. While people in NZ were still waiting to get Android 2.3.3 updates my phone had already updated to 2.3.6 last year. It updated to 4.0.3 ice cream sandwich in April. We have a second SGS2 in the house, purchased from Telecom NZ, and its still waiting for its updates.

I suggest you look at the update method you are doing for the Telecom one. It was updated to ICS about 2 months ago and had another 27 Meg update last week.

Out of curiosity,a what update methods are there for Telecom? Are they different from hitting update on the device?

Yups. If you have the firmware file, you ca use Odin to flash. It's very simple. Do it now and then to flash stock rom when needed. I have a Telecom S2.

I have pre ordered an 8G but have already sold it. The more I think about this tablet the more I think I will wait. The lack of otg usb memory and mhl support is a significant short coming, which maybe over come with a root software fix or mod.

The $439 price point I think is just $40-30 too high, but as you say is it worth quibbling if you really want one.

But just out of interest I did some research on what I could get an Asus TF300T imported for, which is similar spec but with sd reader, 32G mem, HDMI, 8meg back camera, 10.1 ips screen. Bingo $510NZD just $70 bucks more, that is if I could con customs it was under $400NZD. Just a thought!

Clove on the web site indicates that the 16G is 199 GBP (excluding VAT) this I believe is incorrect see ebuyers UK site. Either 1. They have miss quoted, or 2. They are quoting the full price with VAT as the excluded price as they can not get the VAT back for international customers.

Personally I think it is number 1.

I stand corrected and yes I agree it is number 1. They don't charge VAT on international orders. The question then is do you save $70 or so and order from Clove?

I don't understand how the price in New Zealand can really be twice that of in the US, UK and AUS.

Is there an American counterpart to clove.co.uk?
