Got it today - woohoo.

It definitely feels a generation ahead of the iPhone 7 Plus. The blue shift is definitely real though so time will tell how much that bothers me.

This is with the most recent update and the colours set to vivid.

Both phones on their brightest settings

Thanks for posting those images -- it shows it pretty clearly.  I'd be keen to know if it begins to annoy you over the next few days.  If not, imma buy it next week!

I'm all set to pull the trigger mid-this week. Although I just saw that Dick Smith's have run out of 64gb black models, so it might be a pricey $1770 purchase for a 128gb one :/

Oh those sneaky buggers. I had assumed it was GST inclusive since it was an NZ website. *Gulp*, I just looked at the possible GST bill on the Customs website. Oh dear.

UPDATE: Oddly enough, I just went on Trademe and Dick Smith have them on there. it states quite clearly that they're import and GST inclusive, so no border fees. the mystery continues...

Anything marketed in NZ or to NZ consumers as GST inclusive shouldn't cost the consumer any more just because it is shipped from aussie, GST should be the seller's responsibility and included in the price - just read the fine print to make sure.

swisshardy:If anyone is interested in buying the device (with jb receipt), please pm me.

Harry

I bought Harry's  Pixel 2 XL. I now can't wait to get it into my hands.

(I don't really know why though because my Nexus 6P with a new battery and Android 8.1 is still a great phone)

For "direct Import" items (https://www.dicksmith.co.nz/dn/direct-import/) their website says:

Will I have to pay additional GST?

The vast majority of our products incur no additional costs for duties or taxes - the price on the website is the final price. In the rare instance additional duties are required, you will be notified at checkout.

If you try checking out online, after you have put in your delivery address as New Zealand it comes up saying price is GST inclusive, so no extra cost.... which is how it should be.

Oh that's good. But a pain that they're sold out... I just need 24 more hours before I can purchase haha

I too was hanging out for these to arrive in NZ, but now with my freshly fixed N6P easily lasting out the day, it's really hard to justify such a large expense. frown

A phone that I would like, but those prices are eye-watering. It will be interesting to see if the iPhone X/Pixel pricing will set a new bar for mass acceptance, or if sales will be limited to enthusiasts.

Yeah I am certainly in the enthusiast camp, but I absolutely would not hit go if it wasn't for a little extra $$$ I am due from my work. Otherwise I would baulk at 1800 for a phone. In fact, I've been very strident about the iPhone X costing an obscene amount of money... so i'll be working hard to justify my own purchase haha
