Swype also seems to lag badly on the SGS.....whereas SlideIt can lag a little....but nowhere near as bad as Swype.

Well, I've got to admit that in the last few days my swype experience is lagging (again). And Tweetdeck lags when scrolling.

Maybe I'll have to install a lag fix after all.

Yes Linuxluver, swype does retain some silly stuff and then pops up to tell you a word was hidden because it's retained some other "word". And I find it difficult to select the dodgy word to then go into the S button to delete it from the dictionary. I just can't get the dragging to select the whole word, I'm always short a character or two.

Neets: Can I have suggestions on an application where I can type (like Word) and easily copy and paste the text. I'm heading away for a week and I want to update my blog, but don't want to be connected to mobile Internet while I do it.

And while I'm at it, I've seen somewhere a list of Wifi hotspots. Does anyone have the link to that? Looking for free Wifi at cafes etc in Queenstown. Cheers.

Also...Install Wifi Analayzer (free- needs no data) or Wifi Trak (paid - but needs datafor maps)....and detect wifi near you.

I tend to use double tap to select a word because it's faster for me. YMMV though. Give it a shot if you haven't or if you have, forget I wrote this. :D

Is there a setting on the system someplace that keeps the notifications persistent? I notice sometimes that there're new emails/sms but the notification icons aren't displayed. I assume there's a time limit that applies - can it be set to persist infefinitely?

Apologies if this has already been asked and answered, but I couldn't find an answer here.

Thanks for the help.

Used Chainfire to root 2.2
Then used terminal emulator to backup efs data
Then installed CWM and installed Doc's JFO with Fullpackage + Doc's lagfix + Doc's tweaks. Quadrant Score is now a bit over 1700 and no lag. I was unable to install launcherpro via CWM and the included zips. I had to install the market version.

Has anyone applied any edits to the status bar at the top, I would like to make it either transparent

Not sure Artoo, personally I would recommend Tasker if you want to set up persistent notifications. Tasker is brilliant, mindblowingly powerful. Its not the cheapest app out there at ~$8NZ, and there is a bit of a learning curve, but seriously the number of apps it can replace on its own is stunning (the individual apps tend to be easier to use because they are very narrow in their application, but many of them are paid apps, makes sense to just get Tasker really).

Heres some of the stuff I've done:

- added vibro alerts to NewsRoom notifications, persistent text alerts for certain contacts (both of these actions don't trigger when in silent mode)
- if the power and headphone jacks are plugged in (which is what happens when I'm driving) it does the following: Media Volume Full, Screen Brightness Full, turn on GPS, open WinAmp, on either one of the conditions not being met it turns brightness/volume back to their previous settings, stops music playback and exits to the homescreen.

Wonderful stuff, only limited by your imagination really... Next to set up some location based ones so that it'll turn on/off WiFi automatically as I approach or leave home...

If you get that working I'd love to know how. As a first time Android user coming from a lifetime of Nokia ownership I am struggling to get used to what's chugging along in the background.

Location based things aren't hard to implement, it has several tiers of options from GPS to nearby cell towers, even WiFi spots. Its pretty clever with it too, you can set several location conditions and it looks for the least power consuming condition in the first instance, then sequentially works up the chain (so you could have network first, several kilometer radius, next to no battery consumption, then once that is detected have it look for a specific cell tower, more accurate, and again next to no power consumption, then have it fire up GPS, turn on WiFi metres from the home and turn off GPS once it connects to the home WiFi!). Just haven't had time to get around to it yet...

Added a couple yesterday, one that reads incoming text messages when the phone is in 'car mode', another that automatically answers calls from the missus in 'car mode'. Enjoying it, almost as fun playing around with it as it is useful!

Just noticed also that with the Received SMS trigger you can be very specific - for example having the phone react in a certain way for specific contacts, or even specific text strings (saw someone else had used this to set up theirs for theft with a text locking the screen and turning GPS on, could be useful for things like playing a song at full volume with a certain text so that you can find the phone - providing there is someone else with a cellphone near you of course!). Just trying to think of more ways to use that feature, sounds interesting...

Look to be some useful power-savers too, for example switching to 2G only when 3G signal is below X value (and then have it poll at some frequency for 3G signal strength and switch back on, or perhaps poll for 3G with a change of location, or when you open the browser/youtube/other data intensive app).

In the Doc_Kalipik thread there's been some recent discussion about transparent notification bars. Works if you're using TWLauncher but with LauncherPro it wont keep the transparency. My Status bar is quite different because of the Dena theme I've got applied. Somewhat more colourful and animated.

yup i had a feeling transparency wouldn't work with L.Pro, I'm gonna make a custom theme change the battery icon and use the sense notification bar (to make it look darker).

Oooh, I have been searching the forums and internet (yes, I do know how to use it :P) on tutorials on how to create a theme. I'd like to make changes to the Dena theme but I can't find any information on how to do it and the person who modified Dena to work with the Doc ROMs hasn't replied to me.

Do you know where I can find information about creating themes? Either I'm not looking in the right place, using the right phrase or really hopeless at research. I'll be fuming if you can come up with a lmgtfy - with results!

Also, I have found a couple of icon packs but there must be more. I've also googled that too with limited results. Do you have a collection of websites you use that you want to share? TIA
