Neets: Yikes, I haven't dropped mine once. I guess that's because it's either on the bed (yes, I sleep with it, don't we all?) or I am on the floor - with my phone of course (hours stretching after hard training sessions). Maybe you've got big arms R2D2 or you need really wide arm rests :P

$50 is cheap as chips. I'm sure ours is much more than that, but like you, I understand the contents insurance covers the phone.

Rounded armrest on that sofa makes for an unstable resting place for the phone. That and shiny low-friction finish and you have a recipe for "oops".

I'm going to guess that the excess is dependent on the insurer, what and how much you have insured, and most likely, length of loyalty and claims history. I'm with AMI if that matters. No complaints with them and I've been a customer for 15 years at least.

Neets: R2D2, why when I hover over your RSS button does it show the URL as being my name? Perhaps there's something dodgy with Geekzone and it miraculously does that for each person who hovers. Just curious.

Strewth Neets, no idea. I don't get a 'hint' dialog, but the URL display bottom left of the browser shows my nick and password in some pseudo-hex looking gibberish when I hover over your button. (Hope nobody takes that as being dodgy talk).

Whatever it means, I suppose it's standard fare. Nothing showing that alludes to the fact that I'm a lesbian-separatist-feminist pretending to be a bloke, or similar.

Yeah, that's where I see it. I didn't know I had a button! when I look at the page you have the RSS icon but I don't see it against my posts. And I'm sure the RSS button against your posts is new.

Sorry to hear that. I'm an ex-Cantab m'self so still have friends and family there. Hope you werent too badly affected by the quake and it's aftermath Neets.

On a completely different topic - you may remember the "Lost Apps" saga I experienced following my ROM upgrade. Turns out that the so-called "Full" package is really the "Extras" package and gets installed after the "Medium" package.

So that's why the apps were missing. I'm going to have a go at downloading the "Medium" set and see if it installs the ones that never made it onto my SGS. (I'm thinking of deleting from the package those apps I've subsequently found elsewhere, so I don't mess with the currently working versions).

So, deep breath and... [crosses fingers, rubs rabbit's foot etc, etc, etc...]

Pleased to report that the install went fine and all the missing apps have been restored to their proper place, including the hard to find Samsung Apps app. Woohoo!!!

So all I have to do now I think is to see if there's a way to improve the GPS reception. Not good inside the house, but I believe that's not uncommon. Read on the interwebs that there's an app that tells you how many satellites are avaiable, and signal strength and such, so I'm going to look at that next.

If you have any recommendations, I'll be glad to hear 'em.

I think Linuxluver is the guru on GPS stuff. I'm sure he'll respond (or now feel obliged ;-))

best is "GPS Test" on the market for free. My problem is that sometimes it wont lock onto sites, and i have to reboot to get gps to function same problem in 2.1 and 2.2

I see you've since made an update, but it really is just as simple as navigating to the /apps folder in the zip file and deleting those you don't want. That's what I did (v6 of course) to get ThinkFree back without installing all the other "junk".

It's why others might think I'm anal about doing all the extra backups of folders etc. I've been working in documentation for some 7 years.

It's why I read, then read, make my own notes, go back and read. Tick things off, read some more.

And still I've managed to cock things up - so I guess no one is exempt from making the odd mistake even if they've read till their eyes bleed

I took the advice of another member to download Tasker which I'm trying to fathom. If you don't RTFM for that app, you're lost almost immediately. Intuitive it isn't. So that's my bedtime reading now. Difficult learning curve, but it's like learning a new computer language so once you've got it, it all becomes clear and unleashes lots of power. I think. I hope, actually...
