toncijak: this is getting murkier and murkier.
I don't understand how the price in New Zealand can really be twice that of in the US, UK and AUS.
Is there an American counterpart to clove.co.uk?

Interesting. I had assumed we would not get the Nexus 7 in NZ, because we don't have Google Movies, Books, or Music. For a device based around consuming media, we only have 1 out of the 4 services google provides.

P1n3apqlExpr3ss: Australian cost exc gst: 271.82 = 347.49 NZD exc gst
NZD inc gst = 399.61
Add in delivery costs ($30~) = $430
Retail price = $439
Doesn't sound that bad to me
All comments are my own opinion, and not that of my employer unless explicitly stated.
It's not twice the price of the US - $249US is around $314NZ, so w/o shipping factored in, the 16GB is around $120 dearer. Steep, yes, but a similar situation to Aus. They are paying $249AUD for the 16GB, so the difference bwtween our price and theirs is smaller.

So please all stop complaining about the price.

Personally, I think the 8GB is the way to go for now and the really interesting thing is whether, or hopefully when, we will have access to the Google content store.
stuartjmz:
If we get the content store then I'd agree the 8GB is the way to go, but is the 8GB being retailed here?

Why does everyone say the US are paying $249, they are not, if a California buys one they pay $249 plus 8.75% sale tax (state and local can be as much as 9.75%) $21.78 plus electronic waste tax $6 plus shipping $14 that is wait for it $290.78 USD use 0.78c exchange rate that is $372.80 NZD.
So $439 is only $65 more than what the average american would pay.
If you import from Clove UK you may land one here (depending on VAT exclusive price) for $380NZD, that is only $7, yes seven dollars than an American would pay.
So please all stop complaining about the price.

Well, as of now the Nexus 7 isn't being retailed here unless you know somewhere I can actually buy it, I'm waiting for to be available locally. The rest is pretty much speculation.
I have a hard time seeing why they would only retail one and not the other but stranger things have happened. Maybe someone will think the margin on the 8GB isn't big enough to justify selling it here or whatever.
I also can't see the point in saying they will sell it here without at least a plan for the content store as my understanding is the purchase price is subsidised in the hope you will buy content from Google. This is how the Kindle Fire worked so it seems pretty reasonable, and on the flip-side Amazon never said "We will sell the Fire worldwide" and they haven't said anything I can remember about extending outside the US.
My speculation is no better, or worse, than anybody's.
