So 2 day review..
The good -
The Bad -
Overall really enjoying using it - granted I paid $850 USD + $30 shipping and didn't get hit with duty/GST. At $1800 not sure I would have bitten.
iPhysc: I just got my pixel 2 which I ordered from dicksmith and holy this thing is bloody fast
Initial impression very impressed at everything!
P.s. it looks like the phone is canadian variant
Shapenz:
The good -
- I don't really notice the blue shift in everyday use. I watched a TV episode while I cooked dinner last night and didn't notice any extra blueness.
- Its fast - like really fast.
- The battery life is fantastic.
- The speakers are really loud and clear.
- The camera is better than the iPhone's - the portrait mode works much more effectively with moving and low lights targets. I mostly take pictures of my 15 month old who never sits still - so it's always been a pain with the iPhone as it doesn't like moving targets.
- The Pixel seems to do most of the 'portrait' effect in post processing so it's not as sensitive as the iPhone.
- The shape of it - being fatter and taller than the iPhone is much more ergonomic to hold - and the textured back feels nice in the hand.
The Bad -
- The screen is hard to read outside - It doesn't seem to be as bright as the iPhone which makes it really hard to use outside in the sun.
- Because the screen is dull (vs the iPhone 7 Plus) I find myself boosting up the colours on photos I'm sharing but then the receivers are finding them over saturated. I assume I will eventually get used to the look on them on the phone it's just because I've used the iPhone for so long.
- While the phone is fast - Snapchat still sucks on Android. It's so annoying that it runs better on an iPhone 5 than the latest Pixel but I'm sure that's a development issue rather than a unique Pixel issue.
- It seems to drop off my 5Ghz network all the time - using it on the 2.4 is stable. On the 5Ghz it says connected but has a little cross on the WiFi logo along the top?
This is really, really helpful, thank you for posting!
robfish: I bought Harry's Pixel 2 XL. I now can't wait to get it into my hands.
If have this set up now and boy is it fast. (I was already sold on pure Android, having had Nexus 4, 5, 6, 6P and 7)
Thanks Harry.
droopanu:I just got an email from DickSmith telling me to get the pixel before the official NZ release....
Did they just leak something?
postmazter:
I think they meant to say: "... before the official NZ release which might never happen."
and "Samsung"?
I don't think DickSmith have any Insight about Pixel 2 NZ release...
Well ... the little pixel has a Samsung screen :)
So I've just got my Pixel 2 XL (of Canadian origin) from Dick Smith... some thoughts:
As above, it is fast. Snapchat actually runs OK, which is a huge step up from the glitchy mess it was on my 6P. I agree with what ShapeNZ said above, I can't really go much beyond his 'review', but I will say that it runs fine on my 5ghz network (so far).
So I thought I'd just mention what comes in the box from Dick Smith. You get an NZ adapter with two USB-A ports and a supplied USB-C to USB-A port. the plug is the same voltage etc as the supplied US/CAN plug, but doesn't do rapid charging. So beware of that, buy yourself a travel adapter, or do what I've done and use my 6P charger which does do rapid charging...
The phone is canadian, though no network branding, and is the standard model G011C, so if you're @booyah and wanting to buy from the US Google Store, I can't see you having any issues. My phone is up and running on 2Degrees, and all is going smoothly.
You also get a Kogan Mobile promo flyer and sim card, both of which have found their way into my rubbish bin haha.
I've got the phone running the latest DP previous, using US English and Aus English, so both Assistant and Lens are present and accounted for.
If anyone has any questions, fire away....
So was there any consensus on if there is a US/North American/International version of either the Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL? And any confirmation whether carrier aggregation was going to work here?
From looking around, I can't see any mention that there's any variants at all of either of the Pixel 2 (XL or not). In contrast to last years Pixel 1's. Is it safe to assume it makes no difference at all where your 2 ships from in terms of the phone itself (obviously chargers not withstanding)?
P.S. I really hope Google sort this mess out and sell the next phone in NZ, I'm so sick of them making this a disaster to get hold of in NZ.

Put it this way, nobody has had an issue so far, including me.

here's the GSM arena stats page, which gives you all the bands.

Here's a page confirming there's just one international model, so region of origin shouldn't matter.
Hopefully this helps!
Seconded on the lack of proper NZ availability, it is a huge pain
