bradstewart: I keep up to date by flashing the latest firmware for the DBT CSC. It is usually the first to get each new firmware. It is part of the same OXM firmware group as the NZ carriers so it is the exact same thing they will be rolling out eventually. Usually get the latest security patch a couple before the 20th of each month this way.

Same thing I do ;) the xsp CSC was really lagging behind others.

Wonder if they are Parallel imported? Guess not really much of an issue with them these days is there?

@defragger Yes a imported handset you can miss out on network features that are not enabled on the handset but active on your carrier

Hey Guys

I'm currently to purchase either the Galaxy S9, or the Samsung Galaxy A8.

Looking online, their appears to be several similarities, while there are also some minor differences (no Wireless Charging etc). Noticeably the A8 is several hundreds of dollars cheaper then the S9.

Any thoughts which is the best bang for buck?

I regret not getting the A8 because I don't use enough of the fancy stuff on the S9 to justify the increased price

Which version?

I've got the S9+ with the 256GB on board memory.
Does what I needed, I'm still using the fancy camera functions from time to time.
As an upgrade from the S6, you'll notice a pretty big difference I think.

I am after 64gb version plus and sd card more than enough for me.

I just wanted to see current owners still recommend and good time to buy.

Thanks for your reply.

Just wanted to check in with you guys on your approach to S9 firmware.

I have just brought a parallel imported S9 with OXM/ BTU CSC, running it on VF network.

It has just updated itself to Pie out of the box so all good.

Would it make sense to change to VNZ firmware, say when the VF Pie update comes out?

Or are the VF carrier firmware benefits not really noticable? and the quicker android updates more important?

If so, is OXM/ BTU the best non-NZ firmware to run?

Same here, got excited thinking it was the Pie update. Hopefully we get it soon as it seems like the rollout has begun

The NZ carriers are all part of the OXM firmware now. So no real point changing.

I just flash the DBT firmware whenever it is available as that is usually the first one to release for OXM.

I messaged 2degrees on Twitter and had the following reply:

"No time frame as yet, these updates are pushed out by the device vendors (not us). We do push vendors for updates and in general most are getting better at providing these more regularly. You may need to contact the handset manufacturer for a more direct ETA. ^CP"

I always thought it was down to the vendor providing an update once received from the phone supplier? Has this changed in recent years?

@Foo Process has not changed the update will be pushed out by Samsung once 2degrees have tested the update

Once the mobile carrier has tested the update and approved it can take many weeks before the end user can update
