There were two different versions with different chipsets and amounts of RAM. The vodafone NZ one got the lesser amount of RAM unfortunately.

Or better... "What a surprise..."

Vodafone or 2Degrees?

He is talking about HTC Magic, so obviously Vodafone, the one operator who brought it into this country.

sounds good, but $549 is so close to a parallel imported Galaxy S at $749-799, also I assume i9000 will drop in price given all the new phones that are coming out over the next 3 months, including the Galaxy S2. At $399 it was an easy phone to recommend.

But this has stock Android and a proper warranty.

Yes for the auto screen brightness, and it comes with 354MB RAM, 2GB external storage.

What program did you get that figure from? Quick System Info Shows total 386MB on the nexus one. It is cause Android uses a ramdisk during bootup and some of the ram is reserved for that.

So X5 may indeed have 512MB.

Even the Galaxy S shows 300 odd RAM. So it does seem like hardware is 512MB.

ANOTHER FAIL on 2Degrees part. . . . . .

I've just been into the shop at Sylvia Park. They have:

* The plastic dummy phone on the wall.
* Sealed boxed product of the X5 for sale.

and

NO functional display unit for their customers to review before they buy. Apparently this is the same at all the stores, and the display units will not arrive until late next week.

This is getting farcical.

Like most people, before laying down some serious coin for a phone that I will have to use for a couple of year at least, I want to pick it up and experience it before laying down the cash.
It is a shame that 2Degrees didn't anticipate most people would have this need on day one and prepare for it.

I think if you choose your phone wisely you can get 2-3+ years life from it. I had my W880i phone for ages before I upgraded
