I've just called my local Harvey Norman store to ask about my order status showing the 24th of September (instead of the 22nd Sept release date) and they've told me that they can't guarantee that I'll be getting it on that date - even when I've pre ordered it and my CC has been charged.
Apparently they have about 60 pre ordered already so there may be a chance that I may not be able to pick it up on the day and it's a first come first served basis on when you pre ordered.
Kinda sad about this but doesn't seem like there's any other way,
Out of curiosity, what does your order status say on the Harvey Norman website? Does it show back ordered with the dates?

Thank you for your email.   In regards to the samsung Note 8, it won't be locked to 2degrees and would not have 2degrees software. The preloaded software would be from samsung only. The logo only comes up when you turn on the phone if the handset it locked, since the Note 8 is not locked it shouldn't come up with the logo.

Handsets don't need to be locked in order to have custom software. FWIW there were significant disparities in the sizes of the full firmware packs between VF\2D\Spark for NZ for the Note 7 and it most certainly was not a network-locked device.

You can however flash "open" Australasian firmware which debrands the device, and since it's a genuine signed Samsung update package it doesn't trip Knox or void your warranty. It also means you get software updates in a much more timely fashion.

I called my local HN and she said they don't even have any in stock yet, so can't say. She told me to ring back on Thursday.

I am not happy with HN. I sent them the press release showing date of the 20th for customers who pre-ordered, and they are sticking to their guns and say Friday at the earliest. (Online Chat).

I have asked Samsung for Clarification on their Facebook page. Yet to hear back.

Can you please link the press release? The person I talked to about it wanted to see it for themselves but I didn't have a link. They were going to take it to their team

You have to remember that samsung nz only ship, do not allow pickups. Their delivery schedule may also be only applicable to customers rather than retailers. Thier decision for earlier shipment may be because of shipping concerns with the large order status. Myself i think its because the 22nd is a friday. Which means that unless your postal delivers on saturday, a large number of people could have had to wait until after the weekend to recieve theirs.
Saying that, shipping on the 20th will deliver on the 21st. Only one day sooner compared to official release.

My hope is that HN just hasn't been communicated with or hasn't communicated internally and that they will get phones on the 20th and start letting people collect then. I am wondering if they are taking a cautious approach so as not have everyone queuing at the door 6am Wednesday then stock doesn't arrive for some reason.

Logically, it doesn't make sense for them to artificially delay delivery.

Logically, the official release date has not changed for retailers. So they are only doing what they are suppose to. The early shipment has only been for pre orders from samsung direct. Unless the official release date changes for all parties, they will likely not budge. Not unless they want to break their product sale agreement and be liable for damages.

Response from Samsung on FB

Hi networkn, the Note 8 official NZ Launch date is Sep 22nd. But, please check with Harvey Norman on the exact delivery date and if it can be pulled forward. Thanks and Regards~!
