11. After the phone boots up, shutdown phone again, and then boot into recovery. The phone will boot DIRECTLY into Clockworkmod. From there, select "advanced ULK features", then "Lagfix options". You can select any of the lagfix schemes (description here). I recommend NO-RFS advanced EXT4 (others are known to have issues and may cause loss of data)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8789391&postcount=3
There are also 8 included pre-defined schemes:
* OCLF: /data stays at rfs, but has an ext2 loop device on top of it
* Voodoo: /data is ext4, all others are kept at rfs
* JFS Voodoo: /data is jfs, all others are still rfs
* No-RFS Standard: /data is rfs+ext2, all other partitions are ext4
* No-RFS Advanced: all partitions are ext4
* No-RFS Advanced JFS: all partitions are jfs
* No-RFS Overkill: turns on all options: everything is ext4+ext2 and /data/data is bound to /dbdata
* No-RFS Overkill JFS: turns on all options: everything is jfs+ext2 and /data/data is bound to /dbdata
(If using the overkill scheme using the bind option is dangerous if using too much apps, so you should disable it in the advanced menu.)
Although I used the names OCLF and Voodoo, the ROM is not compatible with any of them, it's just a naming convention I used. Hope RyanZA and supercurio won't mind
Which one should I use?
You decide. OCLF or Voodoo might seem simple but they are actually working great (but for those you can actually use the originals, they are probably much more stable), while NO-RFS Overkill might seem cool, it is clearly an overkill.

kiwijunglist:
Froyo 2.2 is available via kies for most but not all versions of the i9000. It depends on the country / registration code of the device. Your phone should hopefully eventually also have the option to update to 2.2 over the air (OTA) (eg. update sent directly from telecom to your phone without using the PC). I would advice you to install kies on to your PC and then plug in your phone to see if an update is available. It will either say "update available" or "your phone is running latest firmware".
i9000T is i9000 from telecom right? I don't know if this version has update via kies to froyo 2.2 yet. Connect the phone with kies and findout.
If it's not available officially (kies / OTA update) you can flash ("hack") the device using odin to get 2.2 onto your phone earlier, which will void your warranty. People running "custom roms" or with "roooted/root access phones" have hacked their device.
2.2 fixes some issues, and helps with the lag but doesn't eliminate the lag. To eliminate the lag you need to install a lagfix, if running 2.1 voodoo is the best lagfix (this will void your warranty)
Neets: Thanks for the help with headphones. Happy to wait for your report NZTF.
Not for exercise. Just me and my thoughts on those long hours.
More than you want to know but relevant. The opening to my ears is small & most ear bud types are too big & won't stay in. I do have a Sony pair of ear buds with the loop over the ear. They are the best I've found so far (but still occassionally the buds fall out). Thanks.

Cool thanks heaps for the comprehensive explanation. Yes I was referring to the Telecom version (didn't realise there were different versions). So just to clarify, in order to find out whether or not the update is available via Kies/OTA, you have to connect your phone to the PC? (so you have to have the phone). You can't just download and install Kies on your PC and "browse" for applications?
It's just that I'm thinking of holding off buying one until the official update is available from Telecom.
Cheers.

Neets: @lokhor - all sorted now? Why would powering off and swapping batteries do that?
