I turn wifi off when I know I want to use mobile data. I don't have both going at the same time and never thought to do that. I use extended controls. Must try it when I'm back on wifi.

kiwijunglist: For car kit you could make some extra large win7 style icons using desktop visualizer app and have a specific homescreen for driving. there are also android car apps out there, and some of the phones (not galaxy) have a special car mode when you attach them to the car dock, not sure if anyone has ported this to over phones.

Google Car Home works on the Galaxy S (Froyo required) and can launch automatically via Bluetooth, or via a specially modified USB cable or plug. It would also work with the official Samsung car dock but they've withdrawn this from sale for some reason.

Is it strange to be paranoid that there is something wrong with my phone? I feel like it drains battery faster than anyone else.

Might be a faulty battery, my mates does exactly the same.  He just upgraded to a 3500mah battery(looks ugly as imo) and his lasts 4-5 days now,  I'm not ruining my case for that though

Mine is in and out, sometimes it lasts 2-3 days, other times 20 hours :s

Done that many times. My standby battery life isn't terrible but the battery just drains so rapidly when I'm using the phone. Most times when my battery has gone flat I have only had the screen on for a total of around 2 hours.

I imagine it's mostly the display that is draining the battery when you check the battery info? and you already have the brightness on lowest setting or auto? I think voodoo or some other mods allow you to lower the brightness below the default lowest setting. no other ideas.

Since downloading the APNDroid and switching off the 3G with it, my phone goes for about 4 days with moderate use. I highly recommend it to anyone who can live without their emailing syncing every half hour and only turn internet on when needed. :>

Edit: In fact you were the one who recommended it to me lokhor! heh

Tasker can turn off data too, and a lot more besides!

In fact you can set Tasker to automagically open the data connection on opening email/browser/whatever, and then turn it off again afterwards!!!!

Ok I think I might be stupid, however, I can't see to get a doc kalpik rom on my stock eclair SGS from VFNZ. I can get into recovery mode, but it won't let me apply update.zip since it says it can't find it! Was I supposed to root before that? If so what is the process for this? Is root ROM specific or phone specific?

nm I found the problem, PEBKAC. Needs to be on the internal memory not the external sdcard :)

I'll have to look up what PEBKAC means, but in the end, have you got it working?  I assume you've gone for the latest ROM (v8?).

I like PEBKAC, can't remember where I picked that one up - it comes from the IT helpdesk industry doesn't it?
