personally i feel though accessories for iPhone are plenty and good quality. i've not found a similar quality for other brands yet. I got one for I9000 and i dont like it but protecting phone though.

We spend lot of money on phones and hide them in horrible cases!

Does anyone with the Telecom version of the phone have the BetterBatteryStats app? I need to know if they have Kernel Wakelocks showing up called secril_fd-interface as this means Fast Dormancy is causing wakelocks. Telecom's XT network does not support Fast Dormancy.

We don't cover our Tv, Car, shoes etc, why should we have to cover our phones

Mines Vodafone but Telecom SIM

That's kept it awake for 9m 20s, or 1.9% of the time. PowerManagerService has kept it awake for just over an hour in comparison, whatever it actually is and audiooutlock 6% of the time (music playback i presume)

I bought cases with both my captivate and S2 but took them and the screen protectors off as they were annoying to say the lest. I have friends with iphones with cases on and they look so big and bulky for such a little phone but their choice.

If you look at those of us wanting a particular colour then covering it all up with a case you would have to ask the question why worry about what colour it is.

If people feel more comfortable with it on that's all good, personally I won't be.

PS NL St Lukes said they had no blue phones in as yet but sounded more like the party line although she did mention brighton?? so didn't fob me off with it being Samsungs fault.

I don't like protectors but your argument is flawed regardless. You don't carry around your tv, your shoes aren't worth $1200 (and if they were you wouldn't take them off road) and your car is covered in protective surfaces like bumpers: )

Yeah mine is a 2Degrees one but with a Telecom sim and I am pretty sure Fast Dormancy is causing wakelocks :( I am trying to figure out how to disable it as Telecom don't support it but it seems to be enabled by default on the non telecom versions at least.

I don't think its flawed at all, the phone is supposed to be used outdoors therefore one could rightly assume it should be able to handle average use including some rain and being put in a pocket. If it can't do that then it isn't fit for the purpose it is being sold therefore would have it build in as standard to handle those conditions.

To me cases are fashion thingies and if dropped or stood on won't protect your phone much anyway.

may be not totally true ,atleast for me. i did not want to put it in a case as it looks nice (galaxy I9000) as it is but its edges are very slippery. I dropped it few times but very lucky everytime it was on carpet. I had to buy a case just to protect from drops especially when taking pictures. Case also give nice hold to it.

it drops less now.

TBH, cases are helpful when you going somewhere far or when you feel less secure than your normal average usage.

For example for me, I would use my tough case on my S2 when I travel in case I accidentally dropping it. But for normal usage I took the case off and place it carefully on my table because I know I do not need the case and it won't be dropping and if it does then it won't be enough to break the phone.

My work table is less than 1m height and carpet is also help reducing the impact. But sometimes cases are use as fashion and personal choice. I wouldn't want my back cover to be scratch and so I would use the case to protecting it from small grains of dust and keeping the phone as new as possible for reselling value.

Simple way to say it is like a car new car, do you want your car to be filled with scratches and dents? You would clean it almost every day if you see anything dirty that making your car look dull. But if you have an old crappy car then you won't worrying about those factors and only wash it once ever 1 month or 3 month depending how willing you want to do it.

I hope this is valid enough :)
It will get to a point where you stop caring about your phone's well being :) lol may be once you dropped it a few times.

Some wash thier cars every day others leave them in the garage for fear of getting them scratched or damaged and only use for weekends. To me the phone is more than a fashion accessory and whilst i try to look after it accidents happen, what I'm saying is why have something you are too scared to use and then put all sorts of things on it that makes it look totally different.
If the phone can't take average daily use then it hasn't been made right and makes no sense to have gorilla glass on it then put another cover on top of that, why would the manufacturers not put it on in the first place if it was required.

As I've said each to their own but can't see why some get all concerned on a particular colour or how it looks then covers it up.

if you drop a phone from a reasonable height onto a sharp object or its edge how much extra protection will the average case give or does it just give us piece of mind.

Of course they aren't designed to be dropped nor are cars meant to be crashed into other objects, what I'm talking about is normal daily usage .

Use them by all means but understand first what they will actually do first instead of just assuming they are required .
