Yesterday i updated my genuine telecom NZ SGS via kies to the genuine telecom NZ foyo update via kies and these are my observations to date:

The phone is MUCH quicker and has almost no lag. I have 50 apps installed and the phone has no lag whatsoever. I was always jealous of my friends iphone 4 because of the silky smooth OS but the SGS is now just as quick if not quicker. In my view there is now nothing that the iphone 4 does better than the SGS.

Upgrading has completely fixed my connection problems to kies. With eclair i would have to try all sorts of tricks and methods to get kies to recognise that the phone was connected and only managed to do it about 10% of the time. Post upgrade to froyo kies now recognises my phone every time without fail and with no mucking around.

Microsoft exchange support now works seamlessly and calendar entries are updated in both directions. This was a major sticking point for me with ecalir as the phone is used primarily for business. Froyo now makes the SGS the perfect business device for those connecting to microsoft exchange for business accounts.

There a numerous other minor improvements and changes that make froyo much nicer to use. At the moment haven't noticed any bugs.

Is there a cable that lets you plug in an mp3 player (eg. this phone or something else) into an ipod dock connector. Eg. you stay in one of those hotels that has a little stereo for your ipod, but doesn't have AUX connector. This kinda plug would be quite useful, or even an ipod -> micro usb plug and then an ipod emulator on the phone so you could use the ipod style stereo to ffwd/rrwd tracks etc etc. I frequently encounter this situation when travelling and on holidays.

Cool. I'll see you there as well. Once it's actually there, natch...

Cheers,
R2D2

PS: I notice that the battery gets hammered when I watch online video and video stored on the device. Not surprising of course, so if I felt like watching a full length movie, I'd be making sure I had a spare battery if I couldn't plug the SGS in someplace.

Connection issues...

Anybody else finding it sporadically difficult connecting to Geekzone? Or is it just my connection?

Hmmmm...

Am I missing something here Embarassed?  When I read this, I was forced into action to try and fix my inability to sync with Kies (been trying for 3 weeks on and off with various "solutions").  After another burst of research and energy, I FINALLY got my phone working with Kies for the first time ever (so that's a real bonus for upgrading!!)

Anyway, the sad news is that when I went to check for updates, it tells me that I'm using the latest version of firmware (PDA:JJ1/PHONE:JI1/CSC:JI1).  I also have a stock standard Telecom Galaxy S with no ROM mods.

^ the user above did a registry hack, then attempted to revert the registry hack and then upgraded via kies.

When i first connected the phone to kies today it said no update was available. I used kies registry patcher to make kies think the phone was from the uk, but then i chickened out and used registry patcher to set it back to telecom nz again. This time when i went back into kies it said an update was available, and voila froyo.

So it appears 2.2 has been officially released then?  A day after I asked about it haha. Does that only affect telecom handsets or vodafone ones too?

Another question.  I can't find a windscreen mount for this device anywhere and accesories of any sort seem very hard to come by.  Not that I want anything other than the mount though.

Anyone have any luck finding/modifying a mount to use with the galaxy s in your car as a gps?  The iPhone seems to have tons, ala the tomtom mount.  Having that for the galaxy would be perfect.  This is the only thing now stopping me from going out and buying one right this minute.

And being at work...

Cheers.

You can get a lot of accessories from http://www.spider-foot.com/i9000-galaxy-s-c-9_313.html
They aren't official though. AFAIK Samsung have not released any of the accessories that they promised.

My sku.48431 arrived a few days ago.  It's great.
It takes a while to arrive, but for the price (inc shipping) it awsome!
It arrived on the day they said it would. I didn't pay the additional cost for tracking.

Thanks for that.  Found the other thread and links to Registry Patcher on XDA - looks promising.
