Green edge & blue flat are at least a couple of months away.

Thanks Nik, just to clarify, is this through Voda here in NZ or worldwide in general?

That's for all telcos in NZ. Can't speak for global as I don't have any visibility there, but I expect most countries will be in the same boat.

Any idea where in Auckland I can get a 64 gb S6 to purchase outright. The only place that has them for purchase (not on a plan) is Dick Smith Albany but they only have the 32 gb model. I have been calling around for two days! If anyone has any idea let me know!

I would say you need to wait a number of weeks before they are sold at retail no contract,

Just picked up mine from Samsung kiosk in Sylvia park. I got the vodafone 64gb edge version. They sell all the telco versions outright.

mrgsm021:

Thanks for clarifying.

It's not as long as I thought it'd take so not too bad at all.

The green is really nice in person. ;)

I picked up a 32GB one on Saturday from the Samsung kiosk in Westfield Albany after an unsuccessful attempt to get one from Vodafone.

Well done Vodafone... you did yourselves out of a sale!

If you are on Spark you can just go on a plan with interest free then pay off the next month.

But therein lies the problem. If you are an existing customer with a contract (as I am), but don't fall within their renewal period (as I did), you can't just go and buy one outright.

Basically the telco's are alienating a section of their customers and losing sales because of this exclusivity policy.

Presumably, when you signed your contract you would have been rewarded THEN for your loyalty and now you need to honour your part of this, by fulfilling your contract. You like everyone do have options to end your contract early, pay your ETF's and sign up for the new plans and get a renewed reward for said thing.

Correct.

But my point is they wouldn't sell me a phone outright, so I went elsewhere who did.

At some point they will sell them outright, so why not now if there are other avenues people can use to buy one?

Hi. I understand your point, but there are limited quantities given to each retailer/provider. They will want to maximise the profits and if they have 500 units, and they can make $200 selling them outright, and $2000 selling them on contract, as a business I do get why they would do that. Especially since there will be easily 500 people who will sign on contract to get one now.
