Looks like I'll need to look for a 'protector' for the visor as it's easily scratched and most cases don't protect that part

Do you mean the raised camera bar? Spigen cases protect it, most are slightly raised so if you set it down on its back the camera lenses don't touch the ground.

Yup, the raised camera bar area. Spigen is so far the only one it seems but sand can still get under and scratch the bar. Better to have a protector installed to prevent that and open the option for other cases I guess...

That's a tiny bit little cheaper than I paid from JBHifi AU, which included paying AU and NZ GST and DHL shipping. I also got the $250 discount card which isn't available any more. Not a bad price.

My Pixel 8 finally arrived today 🙂 JBHiFi AU to a friend, then via DHL, I delayed delivery because I was away for a few days. My voucher arrived last night as well. I'm trying to work out if I can transfer / sell the JB Hifi AU voucher so I don't have to ship anything else over, it's a PITA to do.

First impressions, it's quite a bit heavier than the Pixel 4a, and quite a bit faster but it's not night and day - but early days yet. VoLTE and 5G appears to work on Vodafone, I don't think VoWifi works, I haven't seen that anywhere. The Spigen Liquid Air case is good, not quite as grippy as the older one, but that seems to be the case whenever I get a new phone the old case is grippier, it'll probably improve with time.

The transfer of phones was simple. Most things transferred and work, I'll have to log into a bunch of apps again like TypeApp email, home assistant (easy), transfer whatsapp properly (takes a while to download), which won't take too long. It's generally working fine though. I'll have a play with the new features over the next few days.

Looks like they have stock in NZ and can ship straight away.
Wonder if it'll work on Mighty Mobile for all the things (5G, VoLTE, VoWifi etc)

Also an FYI for Spark people, I just got my esim swapped over with them (I have Spark prepay as a backup) and the swap happened immediately in store.
VoLTE and Wifi Calling working. Couldn't get a 5G connection but NetMonster app showed "5G NRA Disconnected" so I guess that would work if you had a 5G plan?

The 8 Pro allows you to have both esims active at the same time and it has a menu option to switch between the two carries for optimal coverage

VoWiFi won't work as mighty Mobile use vodafone network.
Currently only spark / skinny are supported for VoWiFi

They are probably not yet set up for auto provisioning for the pixel 8 for 5G. You'd need to contact them.
Should work as 5G works for pixels 5 through 7a on Spark

This is crazy as the VoWiFi for Spark and Skinny from my understanding is still limited to calls only.

So the P8 won't send SMS over WoWiFi

Not just pixel phones - no phone can currently send sms over wifi (unless of course you are using rcs messaging).

I don't seem to be getting VoLTE or 5G on Skinny(using P8 Pro). Did i miss enabling something? Previously had a non 5g phone when using the skinny sim.
