If all you are doing is calling and texting then you certainly don't need a high end smartphone, in fact you're better off with physical keys like on a Blackberry.

Hi Everyone, I'm keen to get a new Sensation but unsure if I should import one or wait until they are launched in NZ early July? For those of you that have bought what network are you running them on and on what sort of plans? No doubt will be cheaper if I import it but wonder if there will be some sort of plan deal that'll make it work out better value? And I dont know if I can wait! Any advice for a newbie?

You'll be able to buy through 'official' channels if you're on XT, with Telecom being the launch retailer for HTC's 850MHz version of the Sensation.

If not you'll be buying locally from a parallel importer or personally importing it yourself.

Galaxy S has gone to its new owner. HTC Sensation has gone to its new
owner. Galaxy S3 has gone to its new owner. Now using Galaxy Note 3. Skipping Note 4 I think...

Not necessarily. I used to think that until I used Swype and most recently Swiftey X (which uses your email/twitter/facebook history and figures out your typing style!  http://www.swiftkey.net/apps#1 free in Beta at the moment).

Way faster than clicking in one letter at a time.

1.Download Android SDK (zip one)
2.Download and Install Java JDK 6
3.Connect phone to PC in debugging mode
4.Where you have extracted Android SDK, go to the tools folder and open ddms.bat
5.Click on the device tab and click screen capture.
6.Capture and save

What he said, I went through all that last night, painful really. I wish they would just have a hardware button combination like Samsung are using.

I dont want 2 turn this into a SGS2 Vs HTC Sensation thread, but ive read your posts and it seems to me as if you think the SGS2 is the better phone, correct? Is their anything (In your opinion) that the HTC Sensation is better in? Thanks :)

My understanding is that NZ Sensation in NZ will only be available (through a telco) from Telecom.
Vodafone users would have to buy one that was (parallel?) imported bythemselves or someone else.

That would be great.

In my case, I already had the Android SDK set up and needed only to add a new line for the USB id of the Sensation to the rules file in \etc\udev

MHL demo video is up, working just like it does in the SGSII (with some pros and cons of course).

This isn't working for me, I got an error when I ran the ddms.bat, saying it couldn't find adb, and the txt file inside told me

"The adb tool has moved to platform-tools/

If you don't see this directory in your SDK,
launch the SDK and AVD Manager (execute the android tool)
and install "Android SDK Platform-tools"

So I  installed the platform-tools but once I had done that, the tools folder was empty!

I was like.... wtf?

Did I download the wrong SDK or something? What have I done wrong?

I think in absolute terms the SGSII is the better phone, but of course lots of people will actually find the Sensation the better phone for their use. Its build materials are better (note the distinction between build materials and quality, they are not the same thing), its looks are better, its stock UI with Sense is better, its sound quality for audio is better, its PC connection suite is better. Why don't you PM me about which experiences are important for your use and then I can address them directly without taking up space in the owners thread.

No worries! Really enjoying MHL on my SGSII and Sensation, especially now I discovered the Phonejoy for emulator games.
