Short answer is no. In fact for the first time for me in Froyo, Telecom and 2Degrees are showing up with their names, not their region codes. All is good with my system settings. Apps, not so much. I'll update on that...

If there's any system functionality missing, I'll report it as I find it.

Now if I can stop my Mac Pro from crashing in the middle of posting, I'll post with fewer pauses.

Gotta sort that out.

Good luck to all those who update in the next few days, (and why wouldn't ya?).

Cheers,
R2D2

OT:  Loved every minute of it. Was aiming for 10 hours and came in at 9:41:26. Kepler is such a beautiful track.  Would thoroughly recommend at least walking it :-)  Body has stood up well, even managed to mow the lawns and do some gardening on Monday. Ahh yes, the blisters.  That's the only pain I had.  I ended up with blisters where I'd never had them before.  Pretty much all over my feet and heels.

I am tired, people tell me I'm looking tired.  What a bunch of cheerful people ;-)

My 6:45am flight to Nelson tomorrow isn't going to do me any favours!

I'm now more than 100pages behind in the Doc Rom thread [groan]

My question is why would you move from the Doc Rom to the official Vodafone Froyo release?  Do you think it's an equal to the speed and performance of the Doc Rom?

Personally I don't have any quibbles about the Doc Rom I'm on and not sure there's anything to gain by reverting back to (for me, Optus) a carriers version of Froyo.

Good question Neets. Short answer is that your phone becomes "region correct", and once you've done that, further updates will happen automagically. So, for example, your Optus phone will become a Vodafone phone, and security and bug fix releases should happen without the bated breath, crossed fingers and such. But if you get a buzz from the geekery associated with hacked ROMs and rooted kernels, (and I think you do), then a regionalised 'vanilla' phone would be a disappointment I expect.

Although I may well root my phone again, it's going to be of some interest to see how well/badly the stock ROM behaves. So far, it's smooth and responsive. But who knows if that will last.

One significant thing, the ROM update deleted my CWM 2e restore - it was one of the first things I checked.

On the other hand, I no longer need MarketEnabler to see Navigon in the Android Market.

And last, there's no evidence of Vodafone in the ROM. No VF bloatware, branding or anything. So for all intents, it's still an 'International' SGS. Cool.

Cheers,
R2D2

I don't know where people thought the vodafone branding was coming from as it was not on the phone when I bought it and not after flashing it either.

Main issues I have had so far is that I had to setup my email again and there is no option to stop the phone checking email between certain times that I can find.

The main problem I have is the lack of mobile coverage inside buildings in Greytown, which has always been a problem.

I don't think anyone actually said there was VF branding on the update, more that they were concerned there would be; a lot of carriers overseas (the UK ones for example) have a long history of saddling their roms with all sorts of bloatware that can't be removed.

I suspect that's where the whole custom rom movement stems from; as you say, the stock Eclair ROM that came with the NZ VF Galaxy S is actually quite acceptable (other than the lag. . . .)

And you should be able to turn off the gmail sync in Settings==>Accounts and sync??

In my case it was just an assumption based on my experience with VF and my Nokias. But as I bought an international model, there was no carrier branding on it, obviously, so wasn't able to determine whether or not the 'official' ROM would include VF specific stuff. Apparently not, so all good then.

No issues with my email - works as before. My home screen app icons went MIA but the apps didn't. And all the data that was on the SGS prior to updating seems to be exactly where and how it was. So kudos to Sammy for that.

Must check my GPS when I get a chance. Haven't done that.

I have a SGS from VodafoneNZ with a 2 degrees SIM - I'm not seeing any update from Kies.

Wont make a difference as they will have the same Model number etc.

Only two people so far have on the forums have been able to upgrade for some reason.
Maybe Samsung's servers are over loaded.

I upgraded to 2.2 via kies, vodafone store phone ( impulse buy ).

My process was

- Run the Registry Patcher v1.7
- Run Kies
- Attach phone
- In registry patcher, choose VNZ as product code, Write Registry
- Update Firmware in Kies

Relatively painless, though had to download the firmware twice.
