Pda. There are instructions in the link I posted, but that's pretty much it. Get the phone into download mode, put the tar into the pda section, connect the usb cable and away you go. A couple of minutes later and you're all done.
My battery seems to have stayed on 100% much longer this morning.
kiwitrc: Re using Odin to flash KE7, I have downloaded Odin and KE7 from XDA, can someone tell me whether the extracted tar goes in the bootloadler or PDA field as its only a single file?
Edit. I have both the kernel and the firmware files by the way.
PDA. Shouldn't need a separate kernel unless it's been modified from stock.
Could someone please help me. Im not sure why but when my screen is locked and i receive a call/txt it 'speaks' the caller details.
It didn't always happen, but now i am not sure how i started that feature and how to disable it.
Anyone know?

You most likely have Driving Mode on, the quickest way to disable it is by double pressing the home key and enter voice mode - and then tapping on Driving Mode so that there is no longer a green bar under it.

Pretty handy shortcut. You can also get a widget for voice command/driving mode on the homescreen.

This is my battery usage today, considering Andriod OS is so high....im still highly impressed. almost 14hours, currently at 78% battery remaining. 45minutes of screen usage, cell standby: 100% of time with no signal
GPS, bluetooth off the entire time, wifi on in the morning before work, then turned back on when i got home from work (about 4 hours ago) Emails were set to check hourly (all day)

I might try going back to KE2 and trying again from there.

This seems awfully slow, is there anything that I could do to improve this?? I have been careful to place the router centrally and up high, away from walls, metal objects etc.
Support a locally made Linux based Operating System, try Linux Lite. Download Linux Lite

If SOC stops at that point, you can sometimes just unplug the device, wait about 5-10 seconds and plug it in again and it'll continue on its way.

If the SGS2 is only 2.4Ghz 802.11n then that's probably about what you'd expect.
You could try changing the wifi channel to one that's less polluted which might help (use the market app "WiFi Analyzer" to help check them out, great app)
Locking the AP to 802.11n ONLY (no 11a/b/g support) can help too. Most devices should support 11n now, albeit only in the 2.4ghz spectrum.
