Thought the number fomat was familar, I still use my Army number as a password, not the best security but its only on no nothing things that matter little.

You are right it is a bit impersonal hence my post but I'm sure we will come up with a suitable nick for you, will put some thought into it.

as an aside have you tried Darky's LP2 ICS, if so was interested in your comparison with others about. I'm waiting till they stabilise things a bit more. Not that urgent that I will put up with FC's and signal dropouts

nataSnz: I've been following this thread for quite a while now and hopefully someone will be able to help. I've bought a S2 from Parralel Imported about four months ago. I've been using Siyah Kernel and DarkROM and have just gotten back from Fiji. Now, while over there, for no apparent reason, the phone started overheating. I switched it off, and tried to restart it and it would get to the first screen and freeze. It would go no further. I was able to get it into Download Mode, but since I was in Fiji, couldn't do anything further. I couldn't get it into Recovery Mode. Now, when I got back today, I was able to start the phone and got to my homescreens, but then the phone switched itself off. I am now not even able to charge the phone, and can't get it into Download Mode? The battery indicator comes up, but it will not charge up.

Sorry about the long post, but I'm desperate  for ideas.

Thanks.

Sorry about quoting myself but it was a few pages back that I posted this. I've bought a new battery and reflashed to the stock ROM and sadly, still no luck in getting any further than the front "Samsung Galaxy S II" screen. I've managed to get rid of the yellow triangle, but it still wont load into the phone itself.

Anyone have anymore idea?

go into CWM and wipe the dalvik cache. clear cache and user data and then load rom, and try again.

I can't. I'm not able to get into anything but Download Mode or the first loading screen.

Have you used the Jig to force the phone into download mode?  If you can get hold of one, and get into download mode I suggest you re-flash the stock ROM one more time to see if for some reason the first flash of stock didn't work completely (though I've never come across that before). BTW there's plenty of people on the forum that have Jigs so highly likely someone local might be able to help.

I wonder if there's anything left on the internal SD that would give away to flashing custom ROMs. like having a CWM file still hanging around.  Certainly don't give your External SD when returning the phone.

When you re-flashed the firmware, did you use a PIT file and check the Re-partition option? If not, I would certainly try giving that a go. This will do a full super-wipe of everything on the phone, including anything on the internal SD card, and will make sure that there are no files still sitting around and causing problems.

I tried three of the XDA ICS builds, and when the current one proved stable I stuck with it. I've had no fc's or reboots with the current rom, data is fnie, camera and market are fine. I don't use face unlock (consider it a gimmick). I love the ics features and would now stick with a buggy ics build over a stable GB one.
I'd normally be quite happy with trying one of Darky's roms, but having had 6 full wipes in the last week I don't want to touch anything for a little while!

What ICS are you running and what are the top 5 features of ICS worth upgrading for?

[ROM]{CWM}İCS REMİX ROM V7.2 XXLP2 4.0.3 resurrection (although I'm actually using v7.1). It's based off another xda rom, but I found it to be more stable when trying them both.

Best features:
  1. Browser!! I find it faster (by feel - not benchmarked) and it uses my chrome bookmarks - a feature I've been waiting a while for. I don't like Opera or Safari and had previously used Dolphin HD - not even installed now...
  2. App drawer. The new one is much better and includes all widgets. There are tabs at the top for apps and widgets and a market link as well.
  3. Data control - You can set warnings and limits from the settings menu - no more third party apps.
  4. UI - I felt there wasn't really a lot of change between cupcake and gingerbread. I find it easier to find stuff in ICS, although those of us that like to tinker with advanced settings will curse a little at first.
  5. Trebuchet Launcher. Only works on 4.0.3 and higher according to the thread. My rom came with it baked in and I love it. I like the use of folders in general (but especially in the dock) and the  widget resizing is great. I'd previously been using ADW EX, and prefer Trebuchet. It's still a work in progress, but well worth trying. Being the CM9 official launcher you can expect great support and features in the future.
Some of the features you can achieve by theming, third party apps and custom gb roms. I won't go back to GB though, not now.

Jeff the LP2 roms are just like all the GB roms on XDA and Darky. All have deodex, zipalign, bloatware removed, busybox superuser CWM. The difference you will find between the ~4 top compiles atm are the mix between stock and aosp apps they include. This causes different FCs for each rom and why again so many users ask "how come this works properly on Darky and not on  ICS REMIX for e.g"

I agree with you waiting for a more stabilised rom as its fine for daily use in the basic sense (txt, call, browse) but when you push it I have crashed most of the roms with anything from book readers to games and music players.

Jinx if you like Trebuchet you should give Nova launcher a go it seems on par with GO, ADW, Launcher Pro but I dont think it has folder support in the app directory but does support dock folders.

No, I haven't tried this yet and is something I'll try before taking it back. I'll PM someone who advised earlier that I could use theirs.

I tried the flash with the SD card in and out, just in case it was picking something up from it, and no dice either way.

I'll have a look, but I use the dock folders a lot.  I've tried most launchers at one point or another - always good to get out of the comfort zone and try something new.

Had my first fc and soft reboot this afternoon. Changed batteries and it froze when media scanning (almost immediately). I reset it and on it's next boot I got into Tapatalk and it reset. I also had it briefly freeze when deleting a contact, but that came right by itself. Still not perfect, but more than good enough for me as a daily rom. Those were the only problems in two days with this rom.

jeffnz: Thanks Chex appreciate the answer, what about the differant kernals or are they simply stock as well.

From memory they have no kernel sources yet so they're pretty much stock rooted kernels. The KPx kernels are apparently compatible with the LPx roms though.

Thanks for the feedback Lee! Brings some comfort to know that the stability of ICS in these custom roms is increasing!

Not so lucky my end. I flashed this tonight (and I mean restored the backup, it's not flashing from zip card).  As I was picking and choosing the apps I wanted to restore with Titanium my phone had a random reboot.  And as you can imagine, restoring TB is fairly high up on the list after flashing a new rom.  Hopefully it settles down and I was just "unlucky" :)

EDIT:  really unlucky.  As TB was restoring apps I've just had another random reboot.  Go figure!

Unusable for me.  That's my 3rd random reboot.  Odd isn't it how it can work for some but not for others/me.  Please don't this be gender specific (again)  Wink
I tried Remix 7.1.  I couldn't get the Mega download link to work for 7.2.  Perhaps I should have just gone and watched X Factor - haha!

Nah, when Neets goes on a flashing frenzy, it's like that opening line from A Tale Of Two Cities:
