4.8" is more correct :) 4.7" is OneX which won't work with this version.

Tip: If Samsung apps throws a wobbly and wants to block your access it may be that you have already signed up with Samsung and set your country as NZ. This is a potential issue if you wish to get updates for apps such as Navigon. The workaround is to create a new Samsung account with the correct country settings. I ran into this in Australia where the phone was recognised as being in Australia and on an Australian provider. Navigon installed but Samsung threw an error. New account, country Australia, solved the problem. Since NZ doesn't get anything that Australia misses out on the phone is fine staying set on an Australian Samsung account.

If you mean Navigon, its not a GPS system its a mapping app. Check the link on my post on the previous page to see what it does. It uses the Android GPS for positioning and is far superior route mapping & navigation to anything else you can get on Android or iPhone. It's also available for iPhone but is not as fully-featured as it is for Android. The Samsung version is developed specifically for Samsung and provided free on some of its phones (notably, all the Samsung Galaxy S series in Australia). The standard version is available for purchase on the Google Play Store or on iTunes.

Google maps is pretty good but, IMO, Navigon is superior. Google maps has positioned me in the middle of Wellington harbour and has tried to take me the wrong way down one-way streets. Navigon, in the year I've been using it, has never steered me wrong yet. It's quick to update the route when you take a wrong turn, works offline, gives live traffic info, and works seamlessly with contacts addresses to quickly set destinations. When I'm travelling the feature for setting the home destination has saved a lot of time (go anywhere, tell it to take me home - cool). Navigon will also tell you when its time to change lanes, which is invaluable when driving in unfamiliar environments.

FWIW you might also want to give Sygic a try. In my limited use so far I prefer it to Navigon... nice map view, more features without having to fork out more $$$ and (I think) more free map updates. It's a bit more clunky to input your address, but it doesn't swing my vote.

Cheers, will also give that a try. Interesting video of the two on Youtube bit.ly/KVco03 though they are both iPhone versions in the video.

I take it us Telecom folk need to take particular attention to this for when we flash a ROM that has Fast Dormancy enabled.. e.g. CM9 or does that come default disabled?
Shame about Telecom not supporting it, I want to stretch my battery life as much as possible
I think CM9 is the way to go with that (I want 3 days heavy usage!) - I get 1.5 now

I've got Raging Thunder (car race game) and Frontline Commando (third party shooter). Anything else, preferably free?

If you've got a good wifi connection definitely get Six-Guns by Gameloft (free) - HD western shooter with good gameplay and great graphics. They also do GT Racing: Motor Academy Free+ and Brothers In Arms 2 Free+ which are also HD graphics I think.

And my wife (who has an iphone) loves playing Magic Piano by Smule (free) on my SGS3.

Maybe I should have waited for a 32GB phone as I've only got 5GB left on internal SD Card as a lot of these games are 500MB plus downloads!

Enjoy the games, and I'm amazed at how cool the phone is playing them compared to a HTC OneX I tried for 15mins - Very happy I didn't buy one.

Yup. Not being able to move apps and their data to the external SD card is a real pain, and annoyingly close-minded of Samsung, IMHO. They seem to be saying "if you want big games and apps (such as sat-nav programs with GB of downloaded maps), then you should have bought a 32 or 64GB phone".

I expect that this will be worked around once the ROM modders have more time.

Another annoyance is Google's refusal to have correct HTTP authentication in the default android browser and chrome beta (http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1353). This one is unbelievable, as it prevents downloading from Apache servers secured with HTTPS/digest. Good thing Opera and Firefox work around it.

Finally, there's the annoying "feature" of not easily being able to access the SD card on the S3 in linux due to the new implementation of MTP over the older, more universal UMS mode. Again, hoping/expecting a workaround (I already have one sorted, but it requires a stock-ish kernel). Pro of MTP=simultaneous access to media files by different front ends. Major con=breaks compatilibility and requires special drivers on the PC.
