sultanoswing: FWIW you might also want to give Sygic a try. In my limited use so far I prefer it to Navigon... nice map view, more features without having to fork out more $$$ and (I think) more free map updates. It's a bit more clunky to input your address, but it doesn't swing my vote.

I tried Navigon to get from home to work and while it worked fine I didn't really like the colours or all the POIs that littered the map (and I couldn't fine a setting to turn them off).

Am I correct that Sygic costs 29 euros to by the NZ maps?

Stock ROM for 2Degrees. Has anyone found the stock rom for 2Degrees? I can download the stock rom for Vodafone from sammobile but I havent found the CSC file for 2Degrees? Or is the other alternative is to ROOT the phone and do a Nandroid back of the exisiting ROM..

Yes, that's my plan currently - from there, I'd just need to flash back to stock kernel etc.

Whats the difference between nandroid and CWM backups?
Which is better for restoring and deploying ROMs?
E.g. backup stock ROM, blast on CM9, revert to stock as it was before flashing? (same functionality, etc)

They're the same effectively - you backup/restore nandroid images via CWM recovery.

bignicko:
MurrayM: Can anyone recommend some awesome looking apps that I can use to show off my S3 to make my iPhone owning friends jealous? Maybe some nice looking games?

I've got Raging Thunder (car race game) and Frontline Commando (third party shooter). Anything else, preferably free?

If you've got a good wifi connection definitely get Six-Guns by Gameloft (free)  - HD western shooter with good gameplay and great graphics. They also do GT Racing: Motor Academy Free+ and Brothers In Arms 2 Free+ which are also HD graphics I think.

And my wife (who has an iphone) loves playing Magic Piano by Smule (free) on my SGS3.

Maybe I should have waited for a 32GB phone as I've only got 5GB left on internal SD Card as a lot of these games are 500MB plus downloads!

Enjoy the games, and I'm amazed at how cool the phone is playing them compared to a HTC OneX I tried for 15mins - Very happy I didn't buy one.

We have an article about the top 10 apps for your Galaxy S3 over at AndroidNZ. Check it out here

NANDROID => CWM Backup.

When you do a CWM Recovery backup you're doing a NANDROID Backup respectively.

When you restoring ROM you're restoring an image you backed up using CWM and rewrite it back onto the same location as they were before you backed it up and overwrite anything in the same location. Though usually CMW will blank the directories before restoring.

To receive your MMS you must send a MMS out to someone first. Once you did that and it sent successfully then turn off your phone and then take the sim card out, start the phone again and turn it off then put the sim card back on.

This would enabling your phone to receive MMS from people. If you can't send MMS then you can't receive. Check your APN setting and make sure that you have one for Internet and one for Multimedia and have data enabled option ticked.

Good luck

Ah ok, so I've ran that on my stock Samsung ROM currently.
Wondering if I'll notice anything if I install CM9 from zip using CWM, then if something happens and I need to go back to stock I restore from backup if there will be problems (I go back to how I'm running right now?)
I ask this because I don't have the stock samsung ROM for Telecom and I want to be able to go back to stock just incase (or I guess I install the vodafone stock and turn off fast dormancy?)
As I do believe Vodafone is totally stock vs Telecom who add their boot logo, add My Telecom + remove fast dormancy

The answer is YES!
NANDROID of the stockROM will have factory.img on it as well. Which include the stock Kernel in it when you do a Factory reset after.
I could be wrong but I always been using it like that.

Will a USB OTG cable for the S2 work on the S3?

Reason I'm asking is because I need an OTG cable for my S3 but most of the cables listed on Trade Me say they are for the S2 and make no mention of the S3 (probably because it's too new).  Do both the S2 and S3 use a micro B connector?
