so when im not misquoting cellphone prices, im taking risks on glass screen protectors

these showed up today, earlier than expected - the iloome 8H and 9H protectors.

as stated before, i got the thin 1.2mm 8H flexible one for my mrs'note3, to allow for cases to fit - and the 4mm 9H super hard one for my phone.

the packaging is excellent, its all super tidy folded cardboard and gives the impression of quality. the 9H model was a simple glass sheet with the extra button height fillers (black and white) - the 8H model did not have the home button the height spacers as it doesnt need them - but comes with the useful "hinge tape" stickers, so you apply the sheet like folding a door onto the surface

pics of the 8H fitted, you can still see the top sheet "door hinge" thing still attached. the sheet is incredibly thin, hardly more than a normal PET plastic film - edges are not too sharp, fitment (cutout etc) is perfect. check it out

its "hardly there" as it were, and the feeling under finger is really something.

the 9H thick one is something else - this one flexed ever so little when i bent it in my hand, but is otherwise rigid. its not so stiff that it feels like it would shatter - to explain the hardness, imagine if each sheet was sitting on either end on a battery lying flat - and your finger pressed the middle of the glass - the 8H would probably flex down almost an inch - the 9H would only deflect about 5mm at the most before you wouldnt want to press harder

i was worried about the thing being 4mm would be too thick - in reality it looks like its only maybe 2-2.5mm at the most.

heres what it looks like

this 9H version is something else. the feeling is cool to the touch, you can actually 'feel' the thickness under the finger, and your finger glides over the glass like nothing is there. spen responsiveness is back to perfectly smooth, no friction issues - and the pressure sensitivity seems to have increased - i can control better pressure gradients again where i couldnt before using the plastic protector. this really feels like a money device again. expensive.

photos are courtesy of each respective note photographing the other. just auto mode - no indoor lighting whatsoever, only the glare from the window directly across, which could have washed out the foreground, but it seemed to come out real good. ive turned each phone down to 6MP from 13 to hopefully take benefit of some pixel binning, and no one needs 13mp photos anyway. i was very surprised with the focus ability at such macro distances - i thought they came out pretty amazing??

so in short, i really recommend this brand. fit is perfect, no issues with bubbles or misalignment, quality is great, and the feel in hand is awesome - i dont think i would go back to plastic now, ever.

any questions, fire away.

Do you think the official Note 3 flip cover would still fit/work correctly with the 9H screen attached?

It would be a stretch. I assume the book cover will need to fold flat against the screen... the fact that the 9h screen lifts above the stock bezel height might cause the book cover to be ever so slightly lifted up, when folded flat. Without trying one to be sure, my initial safe response would be no, sorry.

Thanks for the post & stellar photos, lofreq, have been interested in those for a few years, but haven't taken the plunge yet - they came out when the S II was current & reduced touch sensitivity to the point where a custom kernel was almost required for regular use - given my love of the Note series' S Pen, it concerned me that there would be a loss of sensitivity in that department, so great to hear that's not the case.

Of course, I should probably get around to deciding on a device before getting too invested in accessories..

I just got some tempered glass protector (unbranded) Works great :)

Costed me like $25 although ive seen them for like $9 on ebay or dealextreme

It is pretty thin. Much better then a plastic protector

lofreq: if youre coming from an iphone and have no real need for the spen features, id have thought the nexus 5 would be a better choice. clean, fast, OIS camera, excellent screen, great build, and 1/3 the price. cant go wrong?

You know what you are right. I think the Note 3 is a bit too much for my needs, the Nexus 5 looks perfect. The HTC One would be good I like the build but dont like the Sense software. I want a great screen, a decent camera a uncluttered simple OS and a nice build. I doubt I would use the Note 3 to its maximum.

Your pricing is wayyyyyy off though  hahaha.

Got Note 3 on Saturday loving it so far, looking at getting tempered glass protector and case. lofreq- Do you think the 8h protector you got work with the Samsung Note 3 S View Cover? otherwise will just end up getting screen protector and no case :(
