Had a quick play

The layout is bit annoying. I want to see songs listed by albums, not top songs, for an artist without having to click on each album. Seems to have duplicate albums for some artists too

New Pearl Jam single is not on there, Puscifer is not on there both of which are on Spotify so missing some bands I like :(

I'll probably stick with Spotify for now

What.. no Puscifer.
So you can still upload it but it wouldn't match any of their content... just keep your own copy in the cloud for those songs its missing.

Just click on the album column header and it sorts songs by album.

I'm lucky there... I live in Adelaide.  I always use books!

I'll be switching over from Pandora.

This service is excellent, I've already uploaded 50+ albums that I already own into my collection, these now seamlessly integrate with the All Access music.

Key features that I have noticed:

  • Very nice Android app, hopefully iOS is not far off.

  • Slick web/browser interface.

  • Music is seamless between all available devices and browsers (including mobile browsers).

  • Being able to add brand new albums from All Access to My Library and then "download" then to your phone for offline access is fantastic.

  • Store your own music in the cloud (available without All Access).

  • MULTI-PLATFORM and MULTI-DEVICE. This is the key feature.

Pandora knew me very well, hopefully Google doesn't take too long to learn my tastes and create tailor made radio stations!

Who has swapped over from Spotify? What are the differences (wether positive or negative) you are noticing?

I managed to get hold of Google Music through a small loop hole back when it was released and over time have uploaded about 12k songs so far, I don't care for paid subscriptions but as far as personal cloud music storage it is pretty good. By having my music in the cloud I don't have to worry about using a PC to sync music, i just pin a selection of albums i want to keep locally and let them download over wifi and when i get bored unpin and replace

Cnet have a decent comparison between Spotify and Google Play Music here: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-19736_7-57584909-251/google-play-music-all-access-vs-spotify/

At first glance it doesn't look great for Google but for me it is the better service and I never used a lot of the Spotify features.

What formats can you upload music that you "own" in? Most of mine is in flac, does it do some transcoding before upload or anything?

Transcodes to MP3 320kbps and finds/embeds art etc. from what I can find.

Hmm, shame its using MP3 CBR and not something modern - even a V2 MP3 would be nice, but AAC better.

Might have a play next time I do a transcode run for someone else.

I'd say what it would do, for most music, is just find another copy that's exactly the same, and put it in your collection.
I've just added 30+ albums to my library today, just from going down the rabbit hole of related artists and "radio".
Money well spent!

That's exactly what it does, I've uploaded 20-odd albums of my own music and they all appeared in my library instantly (no MP3s actually uploaded). Of course it's easier to match with MP3/ID3 tags etc, but I guess if you've got Artist - Song title.FLAC within an album name folder it should still be able to match that, maybe just not with the certainty it does with MP3 Tags.
