Haha so true... Googles silence and lack of acknowledgement is frustrating.

But when you release one of the most anticipated devices of the year and have a massive security loop like the communication between LG and Google, I guess it's bound to be a little bit public.

Who wants to bet this guy got a bit more than a slap on the wrist?

I doubt he got censured at all - that shot drummed up massive amounts of news and coverage without google having to say or do anything.

free advertising.

It wouldn't surprise me if it was deliberate.

Anyone having trouble accessing the play store using tunnelbear ?

I'm just testing it, yesterday I managed to get to get to the final checkout stage (entering cc number) on a chromebook.

But today i couldn't even add it to the cart , the button does nothing.

Tunnelbear showing i'm in the US.

I think Google are getting extra smart on this. If I connect to the play store via my US VPN (Which comes in via the Amazon cloud), they Google actually blocks me from seeing anything in the play store at all.

I have absolutely no doubt it was deliberate. Just like the 'accidental' release of the N5 to the US play store briefly a week or so ago.

I can add stuff to cart easily. After buying my Nexus 7 I don't need to use Tunnelbear anymore so I wouldn't know if that was still working.

You mean you currently have no way accessing the US play store too ?

Just not sure what I should use now that Tunnelbear has been defeated.

The 'Devices' section show up just fine, prices show up , 'Add to cart' showup.......but..does absolutely nothing. Just keeps saying "an unexpected error has occured"

Tried this on chrome and IE10

See I don't see anything other than a message that the 'Play store is not available in your country yet', although the IP is clearly an Amazon IP based in the US. I'm guessing they have worked out it's a VPN endpoint and specifiicaly blocked it.

Fortunately as I am in AU, I should be able to order locally anyway.

Hmm weird, for some reason if i open Chrome on Incognito mode , then turn on Tunnelbear. ..Then go to play.google.com/store ..then login ...i'm able to get to the checkout point (add cc etc.)

Google is catching up fast .

You have to ask your self why are they bothering blocking countries like us here in NZ for hardware . As Google owns the IP for this stuff it should be open to the world or are the likes of 2Degrees putting the hard word on them to block Kiwis access so that they can try to screw us again??

I see this comment so often it makes me laugh.

New Zealand has a total population that's smaller than most capital cities in the developed world so why on earth do so many Kiwis struggle to grasp that on a world stage it's largely irrelevant?

There is absolutely no driver to enter a market where 100% saturation leads to total sales of just over 4m it's schoolboy economics, especially in the tech sphere.

There is absolutely no driver to enter a market where 100% saturation leads to total sales of just over 4m it's schoolboy economics, especially in the tech sphere.

Same reason Apple has largely stayed out of NZ (Still no official Apple stores, right?).

For quite a while Vodafone was the only NZ carrier to get the iPhone, and that was only because they were able to leverage their global brand. It wasn't until the popularity of iPhone really took off they bothered with Telecom (who didn't have a global brand to piggy back off).

We could always piggyback off the Australian market. They seem quite happy to allow that small market access..
