Will be looking at LG I think. I never use the stylus on my note's. With the battery in my note4 now being stuffed for the second time and needing replacing, screwed if I will ever get something without a removable battery again.

That was at least a step up from the S1. The Note 5 is a step back on the Note 4.

I feel like the Note 3 was the best and models since haven't been that great. Thankfully my Note 3 is still going strong.

I was thinking maybe to upgrade to the Note 5 when the price came down next year but the inability to swap batteries or add storage is a big downside. The glass back is also something I'm wary of as I've been pretty rough with my Note 3. Maybe another manufacturer will step up next year. I do like the stylus though.

JayTaicho: If LG's upcoming device isn't solid, I'll probably get this. Sounds like Europe won't be getting the Note 5 in 2015 though. No word on us yet.

Available in NZ from the 28th, i.e. less than 2 weeks according to @samsungnz.

Note 5 is a no go, if the LG G4 Pro \ Nexus 5 2015 is all it's rumored to be, then I'll be onto that instead.

i've been a big fan of the Samsung Note series; having had the note 1, and the note 3;

I can live without the expandable storage, but the one feature that I can't live without is the removable battery, so the Note 3 will most likely end up been my last sansung phone device (not tablet don't mind their tablets, esp the Note 2014 awesome tablet)

so my next device is going to be either

the Note 4 (the differences between this device and the note 5 are not that significant, from my point of view, with the Note 4 been the better with the removable battery)
A windows phone i've seen some positive moves with this, and i'm getting tired of the OS fragmentation/lack of updates that pervades android devices
Xiaomi have some interesting devices (and are worth watching esp. giving their pricing point)
or just simply refurbish my Note 3

I wondered initially why they launched the Edge+ instead of the Note 5 Edge. I see why now, in that the S6E+ (what a mouthful) has been launched as a direct competitor to the iPhone6S+ (also a mouthful). For those who want their bling larger than the S6E but no more capable.
Haven't worried about removable batteries or additional storage for a few phone generations now but I can see how it irks power users. Unfortunately for those users, Samsung manufactures for the non-Apple masses.
I won't be buying the N5 as I have just got an S6, but I am looking forward to seeing one in the flesh as I think it looks great from the images I have seen. Some nifty new stylus features as well.

so lets see why did they drop the SD card and removable battery

sd card , now days, unlike our telcos in most country's there's good 3g/ 4g plans with plenty of data , they don't need to worry about storage where u can just upload the pics and videos to flickr etc . stream music
with the likes of spotify etc ( hence why they dropped the fm radio , most stations are streaming online )

as for the battery , fast charging which i really think works a treat on my note 4 i have not even bothered to look at a bigger battery even thou i am heavy user , fast charging does wanders

basically that's my take on it and probably Samsung's.

might go for the note 5 just so i dont have to put alot of money into it for the latest model after selling the note 4

I think its fast charging which is why I am about at the end of life of my second note 4 battery now. whereas my second note 3 battery is holding on great.

At the Samsung launch event on Friday morning they demoed the fast charge feature, started charging at 0% and was at about 30% after half an hour. Also IIRC the phones include access to 100 GB One Drive storage.

fast charging is great and all; but at the end of the day lithium based batteries have a life time and at the end of that life time you either replace the battery or replace the device; when I spend over $1k on something i expect to be able to extend its lifetime and not have to "replace" it every couple of years or be forced to replace it; that's the prob with these batteries that can't be removed

I think the argument is it allows manufacturers to have a larger battery if they don't need a removal mechanism, and a more robust device if the backplate is more than just clipped on. I would guess they might be looking at the number of phones sold, the number of replacement batteries sold, and conclude that it's not an issue for the huge majority of people.

In our new Christchurch building apparently there will be wireless chargers built into the desks.

Well the number of aftermarket replacement batteries sold is huge.

Perhaps when I fixed pull one apart to see how easy it is there will not be much drama to do it.
