Following tradition, I am still on the fence about Samsung now, due to the OS roll out (even if you are happy with Odin/ kies/ smart switch loading. Unable to Load official firmwares with various 'hidden.img' even from the same model line (910U for example on Note 4 model).

So, who is jumping or sticking to the note 4.

What a failure.

Hands down one of the biggest letdowns in the smartphone world in a long long time. If not ever.

You remove 2 of the 3 only reasons to consider the Note series over other phablets. Then you downsize the battery and only give 32GB and 64GB storage options (where the is teh 128GB that even the S6 has). I see literally no reasons whatsoever to get the Note 5. Even non Note owners should consider the Note 4 over the 5 at this point.

Yeah, nah. Sticking with my Note 3 until a suitable replacement comes along. Samsung are off my wish list, at least for now.

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

Was looking at getting one of these for the finance committee as she wants a phablet rather than a new tablet but may look at the note 4 instead. Any one know the NZ pricing for the Note 5 , $1200 bases on the NZ peso going down the tubes in the past few weeks..??

Exactly my dilemma right now. Was planning on upgrading from S4 to GN5 and now I'm seriously considering waiting a little for the GN4 to drop in price and just get that instead. The GN5 is just an S6 with a bigger screen and stylus. Very disappointing as the only real benefits I can see are an improved camera and longer support (for what that's worth).

I've also seen contradictory reports on the ir blaster. Does it have one or not?

If LG's upcoming device isn't solid, I'll probably get this. Sounds like Europe won't be getting the Note 5 in 2015 though. No word on us yet.

I have a Note 4 - not thinking of upgrading to a Note 5 -> no major changes that merit a change.

But my opinions on the Note 5 are the same as everyone else - the only couple of reasons to get a Samsung phone was the changeable battery and the memory expansion. These reasons have evaporated. It would be good to see what sort of battery life you get with these new devices. There was nothing really that ground breaking in the Note 5 (like Note 4 had 1440p screen, better battery, processor, camera etc). Note 5 is indeed a bigger Samsung S6 with a stylus.

Anyone looking at a phablet should seriously consider the Moto X Style or the OnePlus 2 - those are still viable options. Moto X Style has got the memory expansion whereas the OnePlus 2 would have really good battery life compared to the others (its "only" a Full HD 1080p screen - I'd be happy with that to be honest).

Spark announced today that the new Samsung Galaxy Note5 and Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ are both available for pre-order online today at www.spark.co.nz. Spark is initially only making the pre-order available to its customers.

Pre-orders for both devices on an Open Term plan with interest free payments or on Ultra Mobile 24-month contracts will receive a $100 account credit. On top of this, the first 50 pre-orders for the S6 edge+ will receive a limited edition bespoke leather phone carrier from premium New Zealand designers Good Winter, with an opportunity for Spark customers to collaborate on and influence the design of the carrier before it is shipped.

Announced this morning at the Samsung Unboxed event, the Galaxy Note5 and S6 edge+ are evolutions of the Note4 and S6 edge respectively. The Note 5 incorporates many of the advancements made in the S6 and S6 edge. It comes with a 5.7-inch screen, and includes the famous S-Pen stylus, making it perfect for productivity and business applications. The S6 edge+ continues the premium design of the S6 and S6 edge, sporting the same metal and glass build, fast charging, and top-of-the-line camera, with the addition of a massive 5.7-inch screen.

Spark Home, Mobile, and Business Acting Head of Devices, Warren Duncan is excited about the exclusive pre-order, saying that it underlines Spark’s ambition to get the cool, new things into the hands of Spark customers first.

Isn't Android M going to offer native BT pen support so potentially any upcoming phablet will be able to essentially do as the N5 does?

I am kinda dissapointed with note 5

Whilst they have done a good job in terms of design, giving it a classy look ( trying to get iphone market perhaps ) and adding software features, spec wise its not a big leap what i expected it to be.

they couldnt even come close to 20mp, 4000mah battery - processor is far from it . should have spent more time in up spec'ing it.

and to top that $1300 price doesnt quite justify it. for practical purposes its like note 4 with better shell.

i think i am gonna wait for note 6.

There is no IR Blaster on the S6 edge plus or the Note 5.

I like them both a great deal - the curve to the back of the Note 5 makes it much more comfortable in the hand, and is a couple of mm less wide than the Note 4. The Note 5 stylus has a really nice spring mechanism on the top like a normal clicking pen, so you push in to the stylus and then pull it out. They're both very impressive devices when seeing them in person.

Here's a photo showing the two colours of the Note 5 (top and bottom facing down) with a S6 edge plus in the middle (facing up) showing that curve on the front of the S6 edge is very similar to the curve on the back of the Note 5. Also the Note 5 stylus when it's clicked in or clicked out.
