The other day my phone (a OnePlus 3T) fell out of my pocket on the bus - only noticed when my music cut out. Got into the office and opened up Google's find my phone and left a message on it.

Phoned the bus company and they were not at all helpful however I was able to track the phone in real time. I honestly thought it was a gonner but since I have disabled bootlocker unlocking in Android I knew it was a brick to anyone else (another used-to-be flashaholic). Saw the bus coming back on the map so waited at the bus stop and asked the driver. He handed me my phone and said a girl noticed it when it started ringing and handed it to him (wish I knew who she was to give her a reward for her honesty).

I'm very greatful - even though my phone was fully backed up I was not prepared to be buying another OnePlus that day. Device security is a massive bonus of not rom flashing.

It not only maps it, but tells you the battery level and what if any wifi it is connected to. You can also lock it or reset it from there.

But for this , phone needs to be on

right ?

Then i called 2D and had the sim & imei blocked.

iirc you could remotely install android lost in the past, no idea if thats still possible..

That being said for future use theres plenty of options like prey project(ios, android, windows, osx), cerberus etc which are popular anti-theft apps that have limited free functionality(ie remote locking, sending system snashots or camera images and reports when next online etc which is useful for police).

So what is required to actually make that work? I have both a Samsung mobile and tablet turned on an logged into the same Google account, but am seeing:

"No phones or tablets could be found"

Worked for me - even shows where my Android TV is!

You can have as good or even better security with a custom ROM. Simply relock the bootloader after flashing the ROM and it'll continue working as normal. I'd recommend having Flashfire installed so that you can continue to flash zips without having to install a custom recovery. One of the advantages of being rooted is that you could use an app like Cerberus to have full control of your device remotely - eg remotely backup your stuff, remotely take photos/videos etc which may come in handy if you're trying to figure out where exactly your device is (or in identifying the thief!). Cerberus has the added advantage that it can survive a factory reset, so if someone steals your device and does a plain old reset, it'll continue to work and you can still access your device.

she's doing okay.

A bit scared to go out alone tho... plus haven't been to her job since then.

i Do have insurance (SouthSure) as its on a plan

But heard something crazy from them---

They cannot approve my claim as it was stolen, but there was no proof of force entry (like door, window break)

I told them, its a subway, anyone can come in as there are sliding doors, as there is no breakage, they cannot approve it.

There are security cameras which can show everything that happened.

Is there anything i can do ????

Did you file a police report? That should be sufficient..

What happens if you got mugged on the street, there's no forced break in there either

to be precise , following are the points they mentioned :

"This cover provides for:

1. The sudden and unforeseen accidental damage to the chattel; and

2. The Theft of the Chattel from a secure premises or a secure motor vehicle and for which there is substantiated evidence of a forcible entry into the premises or motor vehicle
