She has run the gauntlet and bought a Noel Leemings one. She said she wont sell it, which for me would be the main reason for a longer warranty, so meh. Done dusted.

Will order an original charger from Ali Express for her.

Hope its a good phone, paying a premium over the A71 and Poco X3.

I’m pretty sure my wife’s Nord (from NL’s) came with the original OP charger in the box as well as the NZ charger that had been added. And it’s remained in the box, but I guess could be used with an adapter. Given her battery life has been great I can hardly see her needing to charge faster than that provided by the supplied NZ charger.

Heat is bad for batteries, and faster charging creates more heat.

It's generally better for a battery to charge slower so it doesn't get so hot. The charger with my Pixel can do 3000mah, but I put it on the standard chargers that to 1000mah to 1500mah.

Incidentally, you're also best charging your device between about 40% and 80% if you want the battery to wear out more slowly. I use AccuBattery to help.

Warp charging <> quick charge or some of the other charge standards

I suggest you take a look at how it works before commenting further.

That's pretty interesting actually, that warp charging moves some of the heat generation to the charger rather than the phone. Link.

I've read fairly extensively about batteries and charging. Heat is the main killer, which this helps with, but faster charging will generally create more heat than slower charging. Keeping the battery level between about 40% and 80% is best for long term battery life - though I don't think being too obsessive about it matters that much.

No it has a Samsung charger now. id rather the original charger and use my wall adapter.

It is illegal to supply a product in NZ (regardless of who you are, whether it's new or second hand or how you're selling it ie online or physical store) with a foreign plug. Everything sold in NZ *must* have a AS/NZ3112 compliant plug.

MBIE / Worksafe are continually prosecuting retailers and individuals for this and the seriousness of this should not be understated - Expert Infotech were fined $67,500 by the courts last year for selling products with foreign plugs and an adapter.

Oneplus have done some interesting stuff with charging. They ramp up the current rather than the voltage, although there is a relationship between current and voltage.

From what I've read the 80% thing is more to stop you having a phone at 100% on charge continuously. Apple has done some clever AI stuff about this and OnePlus said they would release a feature where they would hold the charge level at 80% untill 100 minutes before they expected you to take the phone off charge. I haven't seen it released yet on my OnePlus 6.

When I bought my oneplus 5 from Noel Leeming I got them to give me the original charger - took a bit of pressure asking what they had done with the originals and apparently they had just kept a bunch of them with no plans to do anything with them so they gave me two.

They took a week or two to arrive from wherever they had them.

AFAIK anything with the wrong plug is deemed "electrically unsafe" so the charger should be substituted and not left in the box. If the phone isn't compatible with Samsung charging system it will probably default to a low charge rate making the "25w" meaningless.

Noel Leeming should under no circumstances be doing this. You should be reporting them to Worksafe because this is illegal and dangerous.

If you even want to provide me with details I will report it, because whether it be the risk of electrocution or your house burning down, electrical safety is no laughing matter.

Battery University and this article (representative) both say it's best to stick to an 80% max. I tend to do that, with AccuBattery warning me when the charge limit is reached, unless I need it full for some reason. It's probably easier just to charge to 100% and have the battery replaced if required after 2-3 years. I find by the time the battery is wearing out the phone is near obsolete anyway, though hopefully that will reduce as phones get faster in the same way it's happened for PCs.

We have a few low current devices using adapters that we imported ourselves and they've been fine for a few years. Not ideal, and I guess worse for higher current devices. If it was practical to replace the power supplies with NZ ones I'd do that, but everything uses different plugs which makes it difficult.

It is not illegal to use an adapter on something you have imported yourself (but worth remembering adapters are designed for temporary, not long term use).

It's very different from supplying a product in NZ which is illegal. I even got something from Trade Me last week from a seller supplying 3 pin Chinese plugpacks with their hardware - these are the same pin format as AS/NZ but lacked the insulation on the pins which makes them non compliant.

Just saw a xiaomi phone that does 120W charging... Does that mean the battery will last only 6 months

I did initially try to get them to give me an oppo VOOC charger that is NZ/AU compliant since its the same spec as the one the oneplus would have come with. I knew they had to supply the NZ charger but I didn't know they straight up weren't allowed to give me the original - since they had a brief period where they accidentally advertised the fast charge I felt I should actually get the fast charger or I wasn't getting what I paid for.

Few years ago now though since this is when they were selling the Oneplus 5.

Are you saying that they must remove the foreign charger from the packet prior to selling?  My Nord came with the NZ Samsung plug wrapped/attached to the unopened Nord box which does still have the foreign Warp charger.

I do feel a bit ripped off, not getting the OP Warp Charger, I do understand why.

As long as the Warp cable is in the box. It costs $8 for a 30w warp charger for AE. But would have saved the hassle.

Sibble are there any adapters designed for long term use?  I know most use adapters in Aus for the OP products.
