eracode:
Have been craving one of these for some time after seeing the gsmarena review mentioned in the OP. Seriously cool phone - only the Android 2.2 HTC Evo 4G (being released in US on 4 June) might be better but not sure if it would work here.

The HTC Evo 4G is dual band CDMA on the Sprint network :( so won't work, I would be expecting a few more for Verizon, AT&T to come soon though. The battery life on the Evo has been regarded by many as one of the worst however.

Also it's releasing just like the i9000 with 2.1, 2.2 is to come later.  Since HTC need to rework the Sense UI to work with Froyo 2.2

old3eyes: looks interesting.

but "Quad-band GSM and tri-band 3G support" nice but again
"The I9000 Galaxy S covers its connectivity bases alright ? worldwide roaming ready quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and dual-band HSPA with download rates of up to 7.2 Mbps and upload at 5.76 Mbps."

It's gone from a 3 band 3G to a 2 band 3G in the review.. So what are the 3G bands??

Yeah I hate the copy-paste things that people put into reviews like that :)

It's confirmed as:
900/1900/2100

Thanx.  Pity no 850 though..

Regards,

Old3eyes

New news :) apparently according to Samsung(so probably biased) the screen looks better than Apples

http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/09/samsung-iphone-4s-retina-display-is-nice-but-its-no-amoled/

Which I guess is should being AMOLED vs IPS

Both are sharing the same brains though, so it'll most likely come down to screen vs interface. Will be an awesome fight

Vodafone UK have confirmed availability in store next Monday so I will be picking up one of the 16GB versions of these Monday after work. Work pay for my mobile tariff so nice new free handset  for me and giving my I8910 to the GF :)

I wont be posting a review next week as I am out of the country for work a lot of the week, but if folks want some specific questions answered prior to NZTF delivering his usual comprehensive review I would be happy to oblige.

I'll have quite a few questions, since its been delayed a further week (I'm wondering if Samsung delayed it in order to accommodate a period of exclusivity for Vodafone and other carriers).

I get the impression that it may more be due to supply issues. If this is due to particular components such as the Super AMOLED display or other portions of the supply chain who knows.

I've wondered about that too, quite plausible also.

NZtechfreak: Will of course post up a review, as I usually do on receipt of a new handset. Will be interesting to compare and contrast it to my current HTC Desire, and the X10 I already sold (and if people are keen with the HD2 I had before).

envy!! do you pay for all the phones yourself?

the rate at which smartphones are being released is kind of alarming, but in a good way. if i hadn't already ordered my htc desire, i would have been tempted to buy the galaxy s instead (or the nokia n8, which is also looking pretty good).

i'll be very interested to see how the Super AMOLED stacks up!

Yes I know, have been hanging around on Clove, Handtec and Unlocked Mobiles to see who got it first. As it happened I had just emailed U-M for an update before the automated notification got sent out:

Hi n4

Stock was due Friday. However, it will now arrive definitely tomorrow and we will start shipping immediately.

All back orders will be shipped by close of business Wednesday with tracking numbers.

Just found a full on preview hidden in the E3 stuff on Endadget:

http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/16/samsung-galaxy-s-preview/

Looks good, I like the look, although some don't, meh

Looks impressive and very fast, the GPU is apparently capable of 90 mill triangles a sec vs:
HTC Desire, Incredible, Nexus one: 22 million

PSP 33 million

So should handle quite a few games, just hope GTA or something similar comes to the Marketplace soon

Mine shipped today, turned out stock arrived sooner than anticipated, so I'll have my filthy mits on one next week (Monday I would think, Tuesday at the outside).

Regards the graphics cred of this handset - check out this vid of Nova running on the Galaxy S: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQ4N7QAlHd4

Oh yeah...
