I am not too fussed about a QWERTY keyboard. After using the iPhone from an N97, I realised it's faster to type on-screen.

Optical trackpad: never used one before so I guess I am not sure what I am missing out on.

Front facing camera: that is a little strange. But I wonder if you can use the back main camera for video calling?

The optical trackpad I had not used either, but I thought was one of HTC's better innovations....many websites require a mouse to be used properly when browsing in full web mode....my Nokia N900 has a mouse, or 'gestures' as its called, use it all the time but its not always user freindly....thought a proper trackpad/ball would be much better, easier to use.

As for video calling, you could use the back main camera, if the OS allows, but its not practical, as you can not see the screen at the same time as showing yourself to the camera....the wholle point of video calling.

Admitivley, video calling has never really taken off, as it requires both users to have 3G video calling enabled mobiles, and the mobile networks charge ridiculous amounts, hobbling its takeup, so its a moot point anyway.

Yeah my last phone had video calling, used it twice, once to test it and once from a mate who was testing his phone. I wouldnt use it if was free.

Depends if AT&T or Telstra AU get it. Its possible, but will probably be delayed.

The optical trackpad isnt used like a mouse at all, its basically replacing a dpad, same idea of having a little trackball pretty much. I hardly use it but it is handy in some cases, eg showing photos, it can be useful to flip to the next photo.
Some poorly designed apps with small buttons also, allows you to flick through each button instead of trying to tap the exact spot. This doesnt happen that often though.

As for web browsing, i never use it for this. You web browse using pinch zoom basically.

The trackpad is nice to have, but hardly a showstopper, since it hardly ever gets used (as per exdees post above, its not like a mouse cursor). It is useful for rare instances such as he mentioned where certain apps etc have poorly set up UIs, and helpful in cursor placement for text editing, but I hardly ever used on my Desire and see even less use-cases for it on a screen this large.

hmm that 808NZD still better than milestone from telecom

gpu is Adreno 205(about the same performance as SGX530), still cannot compare to SGX540

GPU is good for about 41m triangles/sec according to the manufacturer, which is nearly double the current Snapdragon CPU performance, but about half the performance of the Galaxy S and iPhone 4 (90m/sec). To be honest thats good enough for the current generation of games, maybe not as future proofed, but whether thats relevant depends on how much you game and how often you change phones.

I figured it worked just like a mouse cursor, but apparently not...shame.
I do like the fact a mouse is available if required on the N900.....good for hover over effects and drop down menus....such as some video sites where you can hover over a video to view a preview of the video first

NZtechfreak: Should be OK, my HD2 was fine with that battery capacity and a hungrier LCD screen, and a previous-gen Snapdragon. This one is a 45nm based one, so should be more optimised for lower power consumption. Interestingly its GPU is good for 41m triangles per second according to Qualcom, which is close to double the old snapdragons 3D graphics performance (and nearly half that of the Galaxy S and iPhone 4).

Definitely very interested, but it'll take some doing to wrest the Galaxy S from me, likely the sound quality will be the key thing - if its too much a step down from my current, essentially perfect, SQ then I'll probably have to pass...

Do you miss having a trackball / optical sensor for selecting text?

My Acer Liquid was great, but my fingertip just wasn't good enough for selecting text.

I got everyone in the house 3G-capable phones that could do video-calling and we used it exactly two times. The three women in my family thought the video cameras weren't flattering enough and simply refused to use video-calling. Plus it was "too geeky". They prefer texting so they can be busy doing other things and respond in convenient moments. Video calling requires a commitment of attention and presence they found onerous.

Since then, 3G video calling hasn't even been on my list. No one who has it WANTS to use it.

Cost had nothing to do with it as video-calling in our Vodafone "Family" group is free and unlimited.

It supports 850, 900, 1900, and 2100 mhz frequencies, although it seems it doesn't do umts on 850mhz.
