Well I'll b*ggered.  Thought my phone would have a mishap with the dog before this happened....  Though not here yet!  I also have no update available yet.  I guess will take a while to get rolled out?

My wifes VF Magic said it had the update available yesterday

It then applied a short update then nothing changed.

Overnight it must have downloaded the main update because after about 5 reboots it now has Froyo

Now where is mine for the Mororola Milestone!!! ( you know like the newer hardware... )

Definitely a lot better running froyo, my wife falls in love with her phone again, at least it hopefully will keep her interested until honeycomb hardware comes out in 2011 with dual core processor etc

Hi Andy, sadly my magic is still eating donuts, but before it gets upgraded I guess the big question is speed, does it feel faster or slower than donut.

Definitely faster, I could not root the wife's donut earlier to load CM and I am glad that it is now available for the magic, as word had it that it would never have the ability to run froyo :( but glad it happened!

Flash could not be installed, the market did not want to load it. More playing required.

I has a Telecom XT SIM in my Magic (just used it at work around the Auckland CBD) so changed it for my Vodafone SIM yesterday.  Did the 'checkin' thing and then checked for system updates, and WOW, there is one!

Just about do upgrade - have to wait a little while to charge my battery a bit first - don't want to risk bricking it!

Hard to tell if that made a difference, or it was doing the 'checkin' thing, but I am now running 2.2.1 on my Magic!  And its quite usable, slower than my Nexus One but you would expect that, but the features such as Exchange Server support more than make up for it.

Yep, mine updated this morning, very exciting :) Had use of it for last half hour, comments so far.

Speed is good, as fast if not faster than Donut. Keyboard is way more accurate, I managed to send off several txt's without one error, something previously not possible. Dailer is way more friendly as is predictive txt software, just seems much smother to use.

Only thing I cannot find is Wifi AP mode, the USB teather comes up, but not the AP mode (Poratble hotspot).

From the release notes (from memory)

There is no wifi access point only USB tethering
No flash as it is available only for ARM7 CPUs and above.
The magic has an ARM6 :-(

There are a couple of options for wifi tethering but they don't support WPA or WPA2 on the magic and only support ADhoc access rather than WAP mode. They are in the market or you can look on sourceforge

mine updated this morning too. FINALLY. It seems you have to be patient a while after th install is 'complete' seems a bunch of background tasks are on-going (resizing of shortcut buttons...) ... I had a play of the wifes Magic last night. Mildly impressed :-)

Cheers, Stevo
