Why did they call it the beam - again?
I don't know what it is with some brands and their naming, but they seem to add II, 2, Plus, HD, Skyrocket, Duos, Epic, Touch, 4G, LTE and a more variety of buzzwords to their models, especially the newer versions of them.
And then they go and release the beam, and name it exactly the same as the old beam? Wheres the middle ground on silly naming schemes? =/

On the subject of this, I'm hoping some of the manufacturers have sanity by making use of less is more, in the sense that the less handsets they release, the more support we're going to get.

Its retarded that there are 14 variants of the Galaxy S II, most of it is because of carriers yeah, but obligatory nod to the fact theres really only one version of each iPhone (aside from storage size)....

Agree with some of the comments on insane naming. I note however that HTC have put the thesaurus away and named their new range 'One' and then appended a letter to denote High (X), Mid (S) and Entry (V). They appear to be sticking with the metal/composite bodies but they seem to have decided that removable batteries and additional storage is no longer required, how 'fruity' . Still, it may make handset construction simpler if you don't have to incorporate removable panels for batteries or sd cards. My experience with the DesireHD is that I just don't try to remove the flimsy plastic covers.
The HTC One X may just be the handset to replace my DHD. But is a 4.7" screen just too big? Perhaps it should have been called the One XOS. At least they have gone back up to 1GB of system storage but it is a shame they have restricted the onboard storage to 32 GB when 'others' have 64 and are rumoured to be going to 128 in model no.5. Hopefully a 1800mAh battery and Tegra 3 will be a recipe for decent time between recharges.

Yah 4.7 is too big, as is 4.5 I think for the average hand to work on it's own.

4.3 is perfect and when I had 4.0 I really missed the extra space.

Anyone able to tell me if IPS and AMOLED+ (Or whatever the new best standard from Samsung is) are mutually exclusive?

I read the bottom transparent strip on the new Sony XPERIA phones(XPERIA U) is colour configurable.
I could have an Alienware notebook and phone colour coordinated.
I'm guessing woman could find much more creative ways to colour coordinate.

Pity the Sony XPERIA U and Sony XPERIA P only come with a Mali-400 GPU. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad GPU, just a bit old.
Samsung Galaxy S III will probably have a Mali-T604 which is like five times better and supports things like DirectX 11.0

Sony (like their predecessor) do like to follow a year behind the leaders in many things.
But respect to Sony (Ericsson) they do make a well priced everyday solid phone.

That said, surround sound on the Sony XPERIA U doesn't sound like a bad thing.

And on an 'odd' note the dock I see used for the Sony XPERIA phones seems to be a new bespoke Sony device too.

The NFC tags are a fun idea and sound quite functional.

I like the continued use of discrete HDMI and USB on the XPERIA range, as this allows for combinations like 'Big screen'(HDMI), USB OTG(host mode) and Bluetooth keyboard/mouse. Or whatever combination the USB dock allows with USB keyboard/mouse. Guessing WiFi-Direct is just a one trick pony and doesn't support multiple connections and access to an AP at the same time.

I wonder when the first docked mobile phone will be able to run the game Crysis v1.0 smoothly (Given a port to get it onto a phone, Wine on Ubuntu maybe).

Haven't read much about Ubuntu on Android at MWC to date.

I just wish all the manafacturers would just ratify a standard for connectors and push content through those so I could have accessories that worked across all my brands. Everything I have supports iDIOT devices I just want the same sort of thing for my other branded devices.

Like USB power connectors...

MHL is a proposed industry standard, it's just not widely adopted yet. But if it does gain traction, one should be good to go.

Sony/Sony Ericsson on the other hand, have a USB dock for just about every range/year of phones and they're generally around $50-$70 a pop... that sucks.

Clove were pretty quick putting the HTC One range on their site. GBP410 for the OneX has me thinking. Due (at this stage on 5 April). Got a polycarbonate body instead of aluminium. Anyone with an N9 (which I think is polycarbonate) care to comment on its use in a high end phone?
Its a shame Samsung's SIII is a no-show at MWC.

Have played with the N9 quite a bit now since my cousin has one. It's great to hold and feels good in the hand. No cheap plasticky feeling.

From the press release:

I'm betting both will be going to Vodafone and will launch by June, Telecom will pick up the X and release by August/September
