Ambrose_1: Anyone else get a small sim logo with a gear next to it? Been up there since I put in my vodafone contract sim, the logo isn't explained in the manual. It is blank when I bring the bar down too.

Ok been playing with it all day today, noticed my contacts aren't syncing with google contacts, anyone else having that problem? seems to be a common occurence from what I've found from googling it, but couldnt find a solution. Also, this is the picture I logo i have in my status bar

I didn't have any problems with that - maybe try syncing them through Google Sync (Exchange)?

What generation SIM is in there? Can you send texts etc while the icon is showing?

That is the exact symbol I'm getting also, doesn't seem to break anything though as far as I can tell...

I thought it was a microsd symbol though, woops. I've searched the net high and low with no luck apart from a few other people wondering what it is also.

My sim card is brand new with the 256kb labelling also

Goes away with my really old 32k simcard, but thats a prepay one and I want to use my contract one. Its not hampering the phone in anyway, other than being a little annoying in the corner.

I just had a cool idea, I'm doing a track day around Taupo at the end of the month. Would be great if there was an app that automatically timed my laps, like it used the GPS to reset the timer at a certain point in the track or some other way, I think there is something like that on the Apple App store, must be a android equivalent!

Also, what was that app that you can use to track the phone using the gps if it gets lost/stolen?

Run.gps will do that, great piece of software, not the cheapest though - I believe there are several free sportstracker type apps in the Market.

Wanted to recommend the above applications for the desire. Have used them both for a few days now and they are the business. Saving me a bundle of battery and not many faults I can bring up at all. It does the power saving by turning off/on wifi depending if the screen is in use or not with a few rules to apply it

I've defintley gained more usage from my phone using this app - the application tells me i'm getting x3.28 more usage out of my battery, if true, then sweet!

Only problem I have with it is that when the screen is off the graph states it is on. No way to change that with out effects to battery life the author states. And also it takes a few seconds for the wifi to turn on once screen is activated. No biggy there though if you are expecting it

The blurb from the author:
JuiceDefnder saves battery power (lots of it!) by controlling the device data connection and/or WiFi.

You can schedule regular APN/WiFi activation to let background data sync occur and have APN/WiFi enabled while the screen is on. It also helps in minimizing distractions ;)

The Easy Mode is a no-fuss one-click way to let your battery last longer - much longer. Just enable JuiceDefender by clicking on the big button and you're ready to go!

If you want more fine-grained control, try Advanced Mode, where you can configure all JuiceDefender features to your liking.

and also (and I'm probably missing the obvious) ... if i have a bunch of music on my sdcard and want to play them via Cubed or the default music player - how would I go about adding them to queue? I can't find anyway to add a directory path to search for them and google ... well.. I'm probably searching the wrong keywords.

helpful nudge in the obvious(?) direction?

I can't check on that at the moment, as I have my X10 on me, I'd try Astro though and see whether you can add them via that (since Astro gives a pop up asking which application you want to open files with).
