kiwijunglist: does home switcher support 2.2 now, because it never used to. if it doesn't you can change the home launcher under the phones settings -> manage applications menu

there is a froyo version of Home Switcher now, seperate app.

Apparently there is another official firmware JPY that is being released over Kies. not sure about what region it's for though. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881532

Had you tried pulling the battery and leaving it for a minute or two and then putting the battery back in, just in case it got it's knickers in a twist and needed to be left for a bit?

Hi Neets, yes and I tried that but it gets as far as the Samsung boot screen then vibrates once, waits a bit and vibrates a couple more times, then repeats.

nofam had asked if you were able to get the phone into "recovery" mode. You hold 3 buttons down, the volume UP + Home + Power buttons (press the Power button last). That will bring you back to a black screen with several lines of green writing (options).

If that didn't work, and you were able to get into "download" mode (volume DOWN + home + power) you'd be able to flash a rom using Odin. You'd need to get the firmware from samfirmware (need a login - but it's free). The files are large, around 120mb. And you'll need to grab the 512 pit file too.

The JPY release is for XEU - same region as JPX.

I'm just updating to JPY now.

I'm on JPY now... not sure what the difference is yet.

I noticed the other night on JPX that my battery went dead overnight... so maybe JPY has some bugfixes.

Hopefully Samsung keep these releases rolling out. Maybe Google has given them some feedback (after working on Nexus S?) ... who knows.

I still haven't gotten around to flashing Doc's v6 (JPX) rom. I guess if I wait another day there'll be another rom :)

Quadrant score on JPY is same for me as JPX (1244) so can't be much of a change.

Neets, thanks for that. Yes I can get into the 3 button reset but factory reset hasnt helped. I will grab Odin (1.7 I presume?) and get into it.

Righto into samfirmware, found the ROMS, the phone I have that has crapped itself was a genuine NZ Vodafone one. Any ideas what the closest ROM would be or doesnt it matter?

Here's a YouTube video of using Odin. It was created for flashing Darky's rom, and I'm not suggesting you use that, but it's what the video aims to complete by the end.

I'm not sure if you've used Odin before. I understand there's a 1.7 version. I'm still on 1.3.

I don't think there's any official NZ ROM available. It's pretty much the world is your oyster since you can't get a VFNZ official one.

The latest 2.2.1 ROM is JPX though someone on this thread just mentioned getting JPY via Kies. I guess you could just get some intermediate ROM and then connect with Kies (if you've not been put off) and wait for it to detect a newer version.

I've seen DDJP6 used on Doc's thread a while back and was one he optimised. JM8 (Eclair) has been a really popular one for people to flash a clean ROM before flashing onto one of Docs new ROMs.

Asia has generally been what I've used becuase it had the Optus ROM in it (for my phone). I see Samfirmware has the JPX (under European). As I say, it's entirely up to you since you can't get the official VFNZ one.
