Pulldown the top and you will see in the settings beside power save "notifications" click back on that and your normal icons will return

I wouldn't worry too much about JB. Best thing about it is project butter, which only makes my Nexus 7 as smooth as the S3 is anyways. The new notifications are nice too, but not really earth shattering. The S3 still does a number of things the JB cannot do, so all up I'm not fazed waiting.

Works perfectly. . . .so long as you don't want to use Wi-fi, bluetooth or NFC. . . . .Or use it as a phone or camera.

So Marketing would say it drastically improves battery life
