Interesting, I tried JPX but it returned to the crashed state again, so I reloaded JPU and it works. Might be something to do with one JP file versus three JP files??

If it has got 1 file, it is either just a PDA flash or a CWM flash, it's best to go for the full 3 file flashes, I could mirror these for you if you wish.

Thanks I would appreciate that. Phone seems to be going fine on JPU but just in case I might throw JPX on to be sure before root.

He is shifting 5 cubic meters of topsoil for me, so I will call it even. Been an interesting exercise, not something I have had to worry about being a Desire owner.

JPU had a bug in it which for starters didn't let the phone get detected under Kies (of which I have never actually used, I assume it sucks?) plus also had a SD Card mounting problem which caused most computers to mount the SD card as a CD-Rom drive.

JPX fixes this + adds more speed to the mix, JPU was more of a BETA rom which is why it wasn't released over Kies.

Guilty as charged. I hope you're enjoying Christchurch. If you're an outdoorsy type, watch out for all the fallen trees in Bottlelake Forest. Lots of them down on the running and MTB tracks, so I noticed this morning. I imagine there'll be a few more since given how strong the winds have been today.

Lots of them down on the running and MTB tracks, so I noticed this morning. I imagine there'll be a few more since given how strong the winds have been today.

Ah right, yes - I can't really get to do anything like that since I killed my leg about 4 years ago (smashed kneecap) which now causes it to play up.

If yours is the Telecom NZ Model (i9000T) then you have to be Very Careful with what you shove on your phone. These roms are for the Vodafone Model unless otherwise stated.

From the Market, download RyanZA's OCLF 2.0 to do the lagfix, you will have to root it first using Z4root available from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953

After this, things will be heaps faster. The speeds vary across users due to running apps etc. Using "LauncherPro" in replacement to the crappy Samsung Galaxy S's Touchwiz launcher improves things too.

I used to have the Telecom Model, bricked it twice in a day, now have the Vodafone Model (I am a Vodafone Customer anyway)

The Telecom Model is a bit different, there's little dev on it.

How did you talk your way out of the 2 x bricks on the Telecom phone? I presume they gave you your money back. Most people can't afford to splash out and buy two SGS's. Then you might not be *most people* :-)

I don't think he'd brick 2 different phones in one day, brick being an unrecoverable error and you have to use the phone for parts or as a doorstop.

Good comment. Firmware updates on the I9000T need to ensure they have the correct baseband/modem otherwise your 3G 850 connection is a gone-burger.

As recommended by michaelmurphy, root and then lagfix, run launcher pro free and you're good. and if you can use the registry hack documented by other users in this thread, then try to flash froyo 2.2 which is available, some telecom users have been able to update via kies, some havent..

The generic european/hong kong I9000 is 900/2100 3G. The Telecom version is 850/2100 3G. Now.. my Captivate is 850/2100.. same as the Telecom version right??

Yes and No. They share the same 3G frequencies, however the Captivate has a completely different kernel to the I9000. Mixing basebands and kernels - Galaxy S transformed into a toy for the kids.

So.. do the homework.. if there's any doubt.. don't.

Right O, phone is fully charged. I'm finally getting to change rom to JPY. Been such a busy weekend and week so far that I've just been too tired to concentrate enough for this. First time using Odin3 v1.7. I'll report back when it's all up and running. Darky's v5.6 still produces some weird errors for me on my lock screen.

Superoneclick is root. OneClickLagFix (OCLF) is different.

There are ways around the bricks (Thank God) by building a cable to force it into Download Mode.

I restored it, gave up, then magically out of nowhere one of my mates bought a Vodafone Version by accident (He's on Telecom) so gave him the swap.

Best swap I ever did, to hell with that Telecom Crap :P
