mrgsm021: HTC One M8 sold in NZ via the 3 carriers have the same spec, all support 4G LTE 700/900/1800/2100/2600.

As an example, I have a 2Degrees M8 running on Vodafone 4G.

HTC have announced the rollout of 4.4.3 (+4.4.4 security updates) to unlocked M8s by the end of this week. Hopefully that will start the clock for local carrier models as well.
They also announced that this will be the last prior to android L.

I do have to say as much as I liked getting my fancy new phone at launch, I feel a little bit put off with how fast this flagship phone dipped in price, I recall a few years ago a flagship would stay up in price for ages.. :S

Otherwise does anyone have any recommendations on plain cases? I haven't been using my Dot View, though it has a had an update which looks cool. But I want something spiffy

I've just been using the stock case but the little piece of rubber on the bottom has torn and I worry it won't keep the case on if dropped. Also the plug flap doesn't close properly either. I'm tempted to just cut that off altogether

It's great.
Only minor negative is its hard to get off once its on as its very rigid so you wouldn't want it if you like to take your phone out of the case frequently

Awesome, I didn't it order it yesterday cus i wanted to have a look at other cases, but this one seems to be pretty good and for 9.99 plus 7 dollars shipping it's a steaaaaaal

Recently added to the 2 Degrees web site re. HTC One M8 4G connection.

* The HTC One (M8) is 4G capable via a simple software upgrade once this has been approved. We expect this to be released in early August 2014¿.

I am looking forward to this 4.4.3 upgrade as according to overseas users who have already received the upgrade, it will include HTC's own file manager and change to how the LED notification will be implemented, it apparently will no longer only flash for 5 min but for as long as until the user checks the phone. Among other improvements are better 4G signal, better wifi signal in the 5Ghz band etc.

Looks like the Google Now Launcher is available for the M8 now directly from the play store. Support has been extended to some non-nexus devices now. I haven't installed it yet, but when I bring it up in the store, the option is there

What is this about cases? The phone itself will last until there is something better. All cases are ugly and make the phone bigger. If you want to enhance or personalise it use nail polish and glue.

Ooo someone has an opinion that they're applying to all!
Sure the phone will last for a year or two if I stick it in a drawer.
I have a case for when I drop it and I do drop it on occasion, my case is light weight but strong just what I need.

Just because you never drop your phone doesn't mean other people don't

Has anyone had experience with warranty for the M8? I am noticing 2 small dusts under u-focus lens which wasn't there when it was new. I really don't want an opened up one (dented / scratched) as I heard they always seem to have difficulty getting the assembly right. Or do they just replace with a new unit? As it doesn't affect the function at all - it's okay but I have a feeling this will get worse with time.

If you feel it is going to get worse over time and is due to a manufacturing/design flaw, then you should document it. Take close up photos of a decent resolution so that you can prove it has deteriorated with time. If it doesn't affect the operation of the phone you may have difficulty getting it repaired and as you point out, due to the M8's construction, there is every chance a repair will introduce other defects while fixing the subject one.
HTC have a warranty of 2 years on locally sourced phones, so I don't believe you need to hurry. I have just had my M7 replaced because of the 'pinkeye' camera fault. But the M7 is 18 months old and no longer the current model so the economics of repair vs replace are probably different for the M8. As far as I'm aware it is up to the retailer whether to repair, replace or refund. I admit I sent my M7 in with some trepidation because, apart from the camera, it was a pristine example with no gaps, scratches, dings or damage of any kind. I was lucky to hit the sweet spot where repair became replace and it has left me with another pristine handset and a positive impression of HTC.

Thanks dingbatt - I agree with you completely. I saw your post in the M7 thread, and thought it was a great outcome. I have FB messaged HTC about this - no reply as of yet. I am fortunate that it's at least in ufocus lens not in front or rear camera. Unless you cover the camera enough - it won't affect the performance of the photos. I think M8 takes fantastic photos. I have been playing with Oneplus One and M8, they both have their merits. Oneplus one camera is underrated and takes great photos which is very detailed.

To be honest though, I have not been impressed with build quality of M8 overall. I think Oneplus one was better put together for exactly the half the price.

As I have a 2 year warranty - I will continue to observe the lens and decide what I will do with it in the future. If there is minimal change - then it should not be a problem. Cheers.
