My broke broke so one of the phones I was looking at was the 5X, very few sellers have them now.  Dick Smiths is the new owners from China who bought the failed NZ/AU DSE group.  I had a look just now and they are also sold out but they were at a reduced $349.  It's quite dated now but the 6P cost quite a bit more.

Buying a Nexus 5x.

If you can find one at a good price (under $390NZ) make sure it is the International version (791).

Other versions are 790 (USA), 798 (HK). Version 791 is compatible with all of the latest 4G bands in NZ.

Dick Smith / Kogan are doing a bait and switch.

If you click on one of those adverts for a Nexus 5X 32GB for $349, it takes you to this page:
https://www.dicksmith.co.nz/dn/buy/lg-google-nexus-5x-32gb-white/

The page currently show the LG Google Nexus 5X (32GB, White) as Sold Out

Searching on the Dick Smith site finds the same model in Black:
https://www.dicksmith.co.nz/dn/buy/lg-google-nexus-5x-32gb-black/

The price is $389 and you have to add shipping, bringing the total to $398.99.

As of today my Nexus 5X has some serious issues. Wifi seems to be dead. I can't shut the phone down without power+vol-down forcing it. Otherwise it just hangs forever (left it for an hour).

Can't factory reset it. It starts, then seems to forget and just drops back to the desktop.

Mobile data works. The phone works. The camera works. But it's like it's been partially lobotomised.

I tried Recovery Mode but it just shows an Android lying down with its chest open and a red triangle with an exclamation in the open hatch.... And below "no command"

A relative's Nexus 5X has suffered bootloops recently - even after factory reset from recovery.

Waiting for a replacement to arrive.

After several attempts, a factory reset in airplane mode fixed the problem.

N 5x Camera not working:

Since upgrading to 7 and following updates my Nexus 5x camera almost never works. I've tried all the suggested fixes (reset, mem clear, removing other apps that use camera) following some of these it works once or twice, then "won't connect".

Has anyone else had a similar experience and a fix?

I have not yet tried 7.1.2 beta for fear of further problems.

Cheers

My Nexus 5X died tonight. I bought it on 30/10/15 and its been great up until now... I was using it tonight when it just froze, restarted after 30 seconds and couldn't get passed the bootloader. Now it doesn't turn on at all. :(

My Nexus 5X suffered random reboots (40+ per day average) which made it very annoying to deal with - was holding onto it for as long as possible as I loved it. Back to PB tech it went and it looks like they're issuing me a credit. Won't be getting another one only since it appears that LG have stopped repairing them and are issuing credits as it appears there may be a hardware fault with a large batch of them. Been looking for a worthy replacement and it looks like I'll be going with a Huawei P9 after playing around with a friends one since the price is right.

I did run into the bootloop issue however reflashed it using the LG tool only to get random reboots instead :)

I can recommend the Nexus 6P.

Six of us here at work have 6P's without any problems.

I have a P9 Lite and the main problem with the P9 is EMUI, although EMUI 5 seems to fix a lot of the annoyances in 4.1.

I don't know what I would do as a replacement phone if my 5X died ... Pixel is far too expensive (and has to be imported), in order to play PoGo I need an official Google Android (rather than what some brand use) and I hate Samsung's with a passion.
