Ok, having flashed v7 the following 2 things aren't working. And yes, I've fixed permissions but I did not clear any cache files.
NZ Phone app wont display anything in the widget. And my lock screen wallpaper has disappeared and I do not have access to the original Gallery application from Settings.

The other thing that has changed is the lock screen itself. Previously it showed the carrier and had the lock icon sitting there ready to be swiped. Now there's nothing. I just swipe and the icon appears much much larger.

And there's no option to invoke the camera, no matter whether you swipe left or right, it's only unlock.

Has anyone else noticed these differences? If it's just me I'll wipe cache and dalvik. Cheers.

which version did you flash, ICS or black blue, I'm on black blue and it has icon but not carrier, only swipes has no option, apparently the other lockscreen had a bug so wasn't included. With it came a small wallpaper selection and I can access mine.

Trying to install chainfire3d.. keeps freezing on startup.. anyone else use chainfire3d?

I wiped dalvik

ICS version. TwWallpaperChooser continues to stop so even the wallpapers I can access through the "other" gallery wont actually take. This is after confirming I hadn't frozen TwWallpaperChooser and having wiped both dalvik and cache. Not sure then why it's not working. I think I'll probably restore via nandroid. I didn't have a problem with the lockscreen on v6 and really quite liked it.

Though there is one thing that is "fixed". The buttons are visible rather than being a really dark grey that was hard to even see.

Nope, I've used Mobile Odin to flash a new modem, and I used CWM to flash the Siyah kernal I was running previously.

Hmmm. . .first major issue with ICS - my external SD card is acting weird - can't delete Titanium Backup directory, half my photos aren't showing in the Gallery, and even trying to delete files via Root Explorer is behaving weirdly. . . . .Will keep investigating. Could always be my card I guess. . .

managed to minimize bloatware (not eliminate)

have facebook on NO push (but the darn thing still wakelocks)
have google crap even though not on push the darn thing still wakes the phone - esp networklocation spy crap +++ (no i dont use latitude)
have samsung tracking ALL ON just in case i need samsung dive (I have cerberus for just in case too)
the other wakelock mystery is rilj dialer

all these going on i lose under 1% per hour

I could take a guess but I'm just a bit nervous so I wanna just double check with someone that knows.

I have used the search function here too and nothing concrete comes up, I also ready probably 60+ pages of the owners thread using search and read most of the last pages. Mostly found lots of pages spaming info on ISC 4.0 which I won't attempt to have a go at yet, I just want my phone rooted at this stage.

Here are the details of my phone.

I see some people commented they rooted their Telecom Phone but they didnt really say what rom to use.

I wouldn't say we're "spamming ICS" though. It's now official and hence most GZ users are now trying ICS.. It was the same when users had a Galaxy S and GB roms came out..

There are some excellent GB roms out there on XDA including one by a GZ user name CTDroid called "FluxMod" I highly recommend this one as it was my daily driver before ICS, otherwise it's really up tp you. Most can be loaded via CWM, otherwise it will be Odin. The developers will advise how to install their roms.

Most GZ users are on these custom ICS roms:

Batista, Darky, Resurrection Remix, Omega

These developers also have excellent GB roms, however with ICS out now, the development has likely stopped on their GB roms, hence it's probably better to go straight to ICS. It's totally up to you. All roms GB or ICS, some are based on stock, some are themed, some are based on Cyanogen Mod, but best to stay with the majority of users are eg the main developers named above.

What's important to you?
Do you go for themes?
Is battery life a major?
Would you want a rom with the Samsung bloat or removed?
Are you comfy using a custom rom for a work phone?

That's the best thing about custom roms, is that you have choice! Once the phone is rooted, it's up to you. Many GZ users will give feedback about their experiences of certain roms to help you consider. I'm no different, i check here for user's experiences. Before i moved to ICS, i checked the feedback here rather than XDA because i know it is from the "kiwi" experience. Most of my considerations are based on feedback in this thread and then check XDA for the overall feedback experience.

Not all custom roms are perfect, that's the main thing to consider. Will a force close really bug you? You sort of need to have some tolerance of a custom rom and consider that now and then something won't work quite right.

Man that was just the posting I needed. I have a new 9100T that I need to flash new firmware in order to install the Chinese language which Telecom apparently has removed from their custom ROM.

There is no other requirement. After lots of research and reading I am leanign towards one of the several stock ICS ROMS out there, either UK, Hong Kong or possibly Indonesia. If it all goes well I can pass the phone over to the owner.

Reading Google docs document above I presume all I need to do is install Kies (which I have done) to get the right drivers and then use Odin to flash the ROM I want?

I presume this going to invalidate the warranty but as it stands now, the phone is not usable because the user cannot read English at all.

you can flash back to telecom rom from internet and use triangle away from xda and reset the flash counter and you won't invalidate the warranty after all that

If you are looking for ROM recommendations, I would happily recommend Omega. Fast and stable, and I can confirm that the Chinese language is an available option. :)

To tell the truth i would be happy to be able to load one stock ICS ROM and get the Chinese language and then pass the phone on to my friend.

As an aside I have been using a HTC Sensation (Telecom) recently and noticed that it has had all languages removed from the ROM apart from English. How silly is that?

I had something really annoying occur with Omega 7 ICS, I tried to pair with my cars Bluetooth and typed the pin wrong, and then each time I clicked it to try again it tried and failed with the same key. Doesn't seem to be any way to "forget" the connection.

Neets: The first thing I get rid of is Swype. Then I can install the Beta. If I can't get rid of Swype then I'm not interested in the ROM. How picky am I? I agree, there's loads of apps that I'm not keen on and I'm always trolling through the zip file to see what I can safely remove.

Swype's nice and easy to remove from a ROM. You simply need to open up the zip in something like WinRAR, delete the files /system/app/Swype.apk and /system/lib/libSwypeCore.so, and it's gone.

I quite often tweak the ROMs I use before I flash them. I usually:

Remove the text-to-speech data for languages other than English. These are under /system/tts/lang_pico and /system/tts/lang_SMT, and I simply remove all files that don't have 'en' in the file name.
Remove any CSC files other than XEU. These are found under /system/csc.
Force the XEU CSC. This is done my extracting /system/csc/XEU/system, and copying the files into the /system folder of the zip (overwriting as needed).
Remove any system apps that I don't want/need. This often includes any additional launchers that the ROM maker has added, and default apps or widgets that I don't use. These are all under /system/app.
Add/update any 3rd-party system apps (e.g. launchers) that I like. These go into /system/app.
Install the latest Swype version that I like as a system app. To do this, you need to open up the apk as if it was a zip file, and extract the libSwypeCore*.so file inside its /lib folder. This file needs to be renamed as simply libSwypeCore.so, and should be added to the ROM's /system/lib folder. The apk can then be dropped into /system/app. You can also remove the apk's /lib folder if you want in order to save some space.

It's a little bit of extra work, but it's simply to do and helps to get my ROM just how I like it.
