GwigglesNZ:

Been wanting to grab a pixel for a while and have come across this. Seems like a pretty awesome deal.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BCQWYR2Z?starsLeft=1&ref_=cm_sw_r_cso_fm_apan_dp_MJT9630NBHEQ0KQ4QP00&fbclid=IwAR1rK7q8FEZuwiSfOBdCqMDsuS1jMYVUdGOYDolo8c2Ohj8SoZtwLsoSo18

Any reason why I shouldn't?

The radio in them is pretty shite (source: I own one).  I mean it's fine if you live in a good coverage area etc, but there's certainly many, many places I'll be with my wife and she's got plenty of coverage and I've got next to none/none.  Also the 5G radio in them seems to be so bad (at least for me in Napier) that I get way better speed/performance forcing the phone to 4G (I've turned 5G off)

If you're the sort of person that's going to moan and whine about every dBm of signal you're not getting, then don't buy it.  If you're not going to obsess over that sort of stuff and don't really care (my phone is on Wifi calling 99.9% of the time so I don't really give much of a shite) then it's fine.  The camera is amazing and it's a decent phone.  It's totally unsupported by carriers in NZ, and you don't get ANY of the advertised featues like Car Crash Detection, Google Gemini, Call Answering etc that you see associated with it, those are ALL "Have to be in America" things.

I have Gemini on my Aussie-sourced Pixel 7 Pro. But Don't have crash detection.

How did you get access to Gemini? If I try and access it i the Play Store it tells me "This item is not available in your Country"

Did you sideload/VPN install it, or did you get access to it (Wouldn't surprise me if it was server-side rollout)

I've been signed up to the search labs for Forever, so I think it's because of that. I also use the Beta version of the Google app - so if you're ok using beta versions of things, try that :)

I received Gemini on my USA sourced pixel 6 pro last night. Didn't do anything to request it, no beta, standard release versions etc.
Based on that I would assume it will be rolled out to everyone.

Does anybody know what it would be for one.nz (former vodafone) and mightymobile, which should be the same, right? I want to give it a try, as my pixel 6 does show volte, but does not show vowifi provisioned (before on one.nz and from today on mightymobile).

It's epdg.epc.mnc001.mcc530.pub.3gppnetwork.org, though you don't need to worry about it. I've not tried with Mighty Mobile, but you don't need to set the epdg info for One NZ. It's only required for 2degrees because they aren't following the standard needed to make their IPSec gateway discoverable (epdg.epc.mnc024.mcc530.pub.3gppnetwork.org doesn't resolve to an IP). For One you just flip the WiFi calling toggle in IMS patcher and it'll start working without any other fussing. Spark it "just works" without IMS patcher.

Or if you feel like being patient for a few weeks:

Theclaytons: Looks like 2D has VOWIFI with Pixel 8.

I'm using the latest beta version and I now have working VOLTE and VOWIFI with Pixel 8 on 2degrees.

The beta being referred to here will probably be the Android 14 release for March. I'd be surprised if it doesn't update the carrier settings for One NZ as well.

Okay, so new march android 14 stable release channel update didn't enable it. And manually enabling it via IMS patcher has made the wifi calling option available, but the phone still does not make calls via wifi on mightymobile. (It's pixel 6 and I verified it to work fine on skinny without messing with IMS). :-(

where wifi calling is enabled in the settings, can you tap on it, then should bring up another menu where you can change the preference to wifi calling. On my pixel 6 after ims I had to also change this. I'm on Kogan.

Thanks, yep, I know how to configure it (I used skinny sim to verify the general phone/android compatibility), and for mightymobile with everything enabled (wifi calling enabled, preference - call over wifi) it still makes calls over LTE only. May be it's mightymobile that is missing some other crucial piece 🤷

Sorry I did read you had tried on skinny and somehow didn't put that together 🤦‍♂️. Next I can recommend switching to Kogan when they do their half off annual plan sale lol.

I should point out that there is a certain RSRP value you have to hit before it will even attempt to register. Try airplane mode.

And if no dice then sorry this is literally your mileage will vary type of situation.
