noob here. If i get a unlocked pixel 8 from say amazon USA or bestbuy USA, is that pretty much all I need to worry about in terms of choosing a version that would work in NZ?

I have a version bought directly from Google US. On One.NZ I get 5G and VoLTE but no VoWiFi. I suspect that is a One.NZ issue.

Just popped in a new 2D SIM. No VoWiFi but might need provisioning by 2D

Finally got my pixel 8 pro. Inserted my old spark Sim. Seems to have wifi calling, volte (called 4g calling here) 5 g ... everything. So glad to be rid of the noka sh*t.bought In-store , had a choice of Japanese or international version.

I'm interested to know if you have SMS over WiFi working with Spark. And which model you got and where you purchased from.

I bought the international version 128 GB from paralleled imported in Albany. Expert infotech was a tad cheaper but I had limited time in aucks. No one had a porcelain one in stock tho 🥲

I tried texting on wifi with cell turned off and it works. So I assume it used wifi.

With airplane mode on that is more likely to be RCS not SMS I think. I think you'll need airplane off and no cell signal to know for sure. That is difficult.

I was not in airplane mode. Just cell turned off . On pixel you can turn off 2g 4g 5g separately and I did ...but I'm rural and only have4 g anyway

Nice! Sounds like Spark is the winner for out of box P8 support for that feature. I guess you're miles away from 5G.

Has anyone had any news about VoWifi on vodafone/One? I am going to need it very soon as I will be working somewhere with no vodafone coverage whatsoever.

I might have to switch back to my Galaxy S21 as VoWifi is extremely useful in these situations, either using a Skinny simcard or the on site wifi if available.

Pixel 8 and 8 Pro owners, can I ask a favour to see if I'm alone with this issue.

I posted in the Android forum about the Mevo app not loading on my new P8 Pro, it works perfectly on my old Pixel 5
https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=97&topicid=310454

So wondered if anyone can download the Mevo app and if you can get it to open beyond the initial static logo screen (don't need to sign up to the service, just need to know if the app will load or not.)
